Job Summary

Administering a comprehensive infrastructure including multiple MS Windows Servers Some Linux Servers Office 365 Active Directory and Entra IDHyper-V virtual servers, in a clustered environment SAN, SQL Server databases, file shares, web application servers (IIS), network firewalls and gateways, Mobile Device Management (JAMF, BigFix, and Intune) and third-party systems. Administering Tier 2 in-house and third-party SQL database applications, including backup/recovery, security implementation, and redundancy management in a 24/7 environment, and desktop support (escalated by BTSAs) for operating systems, applications, and IT service. Assisting with security control implementation, vulnerability monitoring, and administering security policies. Staying current with and executing Cyber Safety, Disaster Recovery, data backup, and archiving procedures. Provide user support network, server and application problems with security and database focus.

Installing, upgrading, maintaining, patching, and supporting MS Windows Servers, and SQL Server Databases.

Providing support for network, server and application problems with security and database focus.

Researching and resolving security, performance, configuration and communication problems and issues.

Assisting the development team in problem isolation and resolution, particularly related to database interactions.

Providing Tier-3 support for desktop and laptop hardware and peripherals. Performing technical support for software installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrades (including security-related software like antivirus and log management). Troubleshooting email delivery problems and escalating as needed. Developing system utilities and programs for automation and streamlining system administration tasks, potentially with a security or database focus. Analyzing system problems (hardware, network, or software) and recommending solutions, considering security and database implications. Provide system support and administration for the Digital Signage systems, potentially including security aspects. Researching, evaluating, recommending and implementing hardware upgrades. Arranging warranty services for hardware and peripherals and performing out-of-warranty service on critical infrastructure (servers, switches, firewalls). Creating, maintaining and updating all Housing server images for efficient and standardized deployments. Planning, purchasing, building, initializing and updating servers as new releases, upgrades, patches, and hot fixes. Properly disposing of end-of-life equipment according to regulations and policies. Maintain hardware & software asset management data including CAMS as a back-up, and biannual inventory.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in managing systems and services like Microsoft System Center, including Operations Manager, Configuration Manager, MDM Intune, in clustered environments, and making recommendations for purchasing or upgrading to new computer hardware, software, and services.

  • Demonstrated expertise and experience performing moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, modify, and support operating systems, databases, utilities, and Internet / intranet-related tools, and planning, designing, and implementing moderately complex system updates and rollouts.

  • Demonstrated skills in writing and executing complex scripts using Windows PowerShell, Visual Basic Scripting and T-SQL and ability to write software in support of systems management, log analysis and other system administration duties for multiple integrated systems including system maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to integrate computer and network systems with campus middleware services supporting computing account management and directory services. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.

  • Knowledge of Student Housing and Dining Services operations and the systems and software applications used to support this business operation.

  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions.

  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • General knowledge of other areas of IT.

  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.

  • Knowledge of University and Student Housing and Dining operations and the systems and software applications used to support this business operation.
