SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Category Manager I that will responsible for developing, implementing, and managing sourcing strategies for consumables & indirect materials and services categories. This role will focus on optimizing costs, quality, and delivery while improving Supply Chain efficiencies and maintaining supplier relationships. Responsibilities also include managing the consumables purchasing team and ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of materials to meet timelines and requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, execute, and implement category strategies by engaging stakeholders, analyzing spend and market dynamics, defining sourcing plans, and updating strategies as business conditions evolve.

• Identify, prioritize, and implement scalable consignment or EBOS opportunities across EBOS categories and projects.

• Lead supplier relationship management through executive level engagement, business reviews, performance monitoring, and supporting operational needs such as expedites.

• Drive category financial performance by setting financial strategies, developing pricing approaches, and leading monthly and annual financial reviews with metrics, forecasts, and project updates.

• Achieve material cost reductions by leading contract negotiations, defining negotiation strategies and TCO models, monitoring market drivers, and managing commodity inflation forecasting and mitigation.

• Responsible for defining negotiations strategy including supplier profiles, commercial negotiations targets, defining switching costs, and building Total Cost of Ownership.

• Assess potential opportunities for categories including spend segmentation, category maturity, cost drivers, and supply market analysis

• Build strong cross functional relationships by collaborating effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.

• Closely monitor market drivers affecting the category including raw material pricing and availability, supplier capacity, industry disruptions and new products.

• Provide leadership and coaching by modeling expected behaviors, offering constructive feedback, managing performance, and supporting additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience

• Minimum 6 years of experience in strategically managing and expanding categories and suppliers, with a strong background in indirect materials & services categories.

• Current driver's license

• Strong understanding of consumables & indirect materials and services purchasing processes and procedures
• Strong business acumen with skills in strategic thinking and negotiation
• Effective communication and presentation skills
• Ability to lead people with experience in hiring, coaching, and mentoring a team of professionals to anticipate needs and achieve short and long-term goals.
• Ability to influence without authority
• Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

• Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures

• Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills

• Ability to travel up to 30%

The base pay range for this role is $102,000 - $153,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
