We are seeking applicants for a Part-Time Pharmacist to join the dedicated the MU VHC Pharmacy Team. This position will join a team comprised of a full-time Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager, a part-time Pharmacist and DVM Practitioner, as well as a team of Pharmacy Technicians who support the clinicians and clients of our veterinary teaching hospital.

Standard responsibilities will vary based on hospital and pharmacy needs, but include:

• Review and verify medication orders to ensure appropriateness, accuracy, and patient safety.
• Verify the correct selection, preparation, and dispensing of medications, including hazardous and chemotherapy agents.
• Prioritize medication orders based on patient acuity, treatment urgency, and order status.
• Provide patient-specific medication recommendations that promote safety, efficacy, and cost-effective therapy.
• Collaborate with the veterinary healthcare team to optimize medication therapy and support high-quality patient care.
• Serve as a drug information and clinical resource for pharmacy technicians, veterinary students, interns, residents, veterinarians, and referring veterinarians.
• Oversee the preparation, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceutical products, including sterile IV medications, chemotherapy preparations, injectable medications, oral formulations, and topical compounds.
• Provide medication counseling and education to clients to support the safe and effective use of prescribed medications.
• Perform routine controlled substance monitoring, reconciliation, and audit activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with applicable Missouri Board of Pharmacy regulations and institutional policies.
• Participate in quality assurance, medication safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives within the pharmacy.
• Other duties as assigned.

Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center (VHC) for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare.

Shifts will be scheduled during the hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a part-time position that will work an average of 15 to 20 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours to cover pharmacist vacations and other absences. The role also includes participation in a rotating on-call schedule to provide guidance and support to pharmacy technicians as needed.

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent degree
• Pharmacist licensure by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy or ability to obtain licensure

• Prior experience in both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy settings.
• Prior experience with pharmacy automation systems, preferably Omnicell.
• Prior experience in a veterinary pharmacy or with medications in a veterinary setting is desirable but not required.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and a collegial attitude and team-oriented mentality.
• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and / or pivot priorities and activities quickly.

Salary Range: $55.00 to $60.00 per hour
