*GENERAL SUMMARY* The Cost Accountant supports the Gastonia Plant Manager and Plant Controller by executing plant-level accounting and finance activities with an emphasis on standard costing, inventory cycle counts, and manufacturing financial analysis. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of standard costs, inventory balances, and manufacturing variances while partnering with operations to support cost control, operational discipline, and continuous improvement. *PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)* Execute the standard costing framework (BOMs/routings, labor and overhead rates, cost rolls) and maintain supporting documentation and controls. Ensure consistent application of company costing policies and procedures across the Gastonia plant. Participate in the annual and periodic standard cost updates, including interim changes as required; coordinate timelines and communicate impacts to stakeholders. Partner with operations, purchasing, and engineering to identify root causes, drive corrective actions, and track sustained improvements. Support accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation of inventory subledger/perpetual inventory to the general ledger, including WIP and finished goods. Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes. Support monthly close activities for the Gastonia plant, including inventory and cost-related journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations. Review manufacturing spending by cost center; identify unusual trends, support accrual accuracy, and communicate drivers to plant leadership. Support the annual budget and periodic forecast processes by providing plant-level cost, volume, and inventory inputs and analysis. Partner with operations on cost reduction projects and validate savings; help establish baselines, track benefits, and document results. Drive continuous improvement in plant accounting processes, leveraging systems, standard work, and automation where appropriate. Execute and maintain internal controls in accordance with company policies and accounting standards; ensure audit-ready documentation and segregation of duties. Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation, participating in walkthroughs, and resolving questions promptly. *EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE* Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. 2-5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing variance analysis. Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills preferred. *KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES* Strong business acumen and operational understanding. Continuous improvement mindset. Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy. *PHYSICAL DEMANDS* Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone. Position requires movement around the facilities. *WORKING CONDITIONS* Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron, and boots).
