POSITION SUMMARY Works directly with the surgery manager to oversee the central sterilization technicians (CST). Coordinator responsibilities, including tech assignments, orientation/training and onboarding. Ensures compliance with infection control policies, AAMI, HSPA, AORN, and Joint Commission standards. Acts as a liaison between the surgery manager and the central sterilization technicians, facilitating all instrumentation to be ready on time, supporting all customers of the department. Assures compliance with sterilization practices on all equipment in the Sterilization Processing Department (SPD) area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedules and coordinates the CST daily assignments in accordance with department needs.
- Acts as a Central Sterile resource to RCH staff regarding sterile processes, technical skills, SPD equipment, supplies/instruments.
- Acts as a trainer, mentor and coach and provides development and growth opportunities for ST/CT staff, as needed to remain proficient in SPD duties.
- Coordinate and maintain departmental workflow in decontamination, the inspection of instruments/trays, cleaning, assembling and packaging of surgical instruments, medical/surgical materials and equipment.
- Proficient in SPD policies and protocol regarding best practices and guidelines.
- Assists surgery manager in monitoring inventory of supplies, instruments and equipment, including analyzing usage patterns of supplies and recommending optimal par levels.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Licensure/Certification or credentials
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST- Certified Registered Central Service Tech, HSPA or Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician CBSPD) Preferred.
- If not certified upon hire, will agree to get certification within 1 year of hire date.
- BLS Certification. Required or within 1 year of hire date.
- Skill/Experience/Competency
- Minimum of two years' experience as a Certified Central Sterilization Technician.
- Preferred of one-year experience in Sterile Processing to include either one year of previous leadership experience in a team lead/supervisory or peer leadership capacity.

- Has the physical dexterity and perceptive acuity, visual and hearing to satisfactorily perform all required duties.
- Exercises care and good body mechanics in lifting and handling equipment and instrumentation.
- Works in moist warm areas and some restricted spaces.
- Works with hazardous materials, chemicals, detergents, and disinfectants.
- Works with contaminated/infectious materials including blood and body fluids.
- Operates steam and chemical sterilizers, automatic endoscopic preprocessor, and other related equipment.
- Constant kneeling, stooping, bending, twisting and occasional need to lift patients
- Medium Lifting, generally lifting not more than 50 lbs. maximum with assistance, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
