ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES: Introduction to Environmental Studies

The Environmental Studies Program at Tufts University is seeking a part-time Lecturer to teach Introduction to Environmental Studies in Spring 2027. This is an introductory-level class that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:30-5:45pm at the Medford campus. The course is capped at 40 students and is supported by a Teaching Assistant.

Introduction to Environmental Studies is a gateway course in the Environmental Studies Program, introducing students to a broad range of perspectives on environmental issues and their social, cultural, and ecological dimensions. The course uses a case-study approach to explore environmental challenges through an interdisciplinary lens, integrating perspectives from the natural and social sciences, arts, and humanities. The course draws on the work of major Western thinkers alongside Indigenous, global, and emerging environmental thinkers. A syllabus is available upon request, but we encourage applicants to tailor the course around their own strengths in the field.
