Job Summary
The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Data Analyst provides strategic administrative oversight for data management and record integrity. This role is responsible for supporting university compliance with federal regulations associated with the diverse population of international students, scholars and employees sponsored by the University of Minnesota. This position oversees software maintenance, troubleshooting, and mandated data reporting while serving as a primary resource for staff training and university-wide collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Data Analysis and Integration(50%):
Provide administrative oversight for the Sunapsis database in order to:
Troubleshoot issues for clients and end users
Correct errors
Maintain data integrity
Collaborate with GPS-IT for datafeed configurations and software maintenance
Query and utilize Sunapsis data for unit reporting
Liaise with system campuses as needed for general Sunapsis support
Support visa-related data integrity in PeopleSoft
Conduct regular audits of international student and scholar data
Establish data entry standards, documentation, and data maintenance standards for system users

Federal Compliance & Institutional Reporting (20%):
Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
Support SEVP compliance by monitoring alerts, processing e-forms, and completing reporting in SEVIS
Stay current with laws and regulations regarding F-1 and J-1 programs.

Data Leadership (30%):
Serve as the primary resource for data-related decisions in conjunction with University governance
Prepare complex statistical reports and data dashboards for university stakeholders and national organizations
Work with ISSS directors and area leaders to prepare and analyze data for various purposes including budgeting and analysis of trends related to academics, engagement, student and scholar needs, international student/scholar demographics, etc.
Identify business process problems through data collection and analysis and recommend data-driven solutions
Conduct ongoing training for ISSS staff and campus units regarding system access and record management.
Develop and implement data retention policies to balance benefits and potential risks.
Develop strategic partnerships across campus to streamline immigration data and ensure that international student and scholar data is effectively integrated with broader University data (IDR, Graduate School, Admissions, and others)
Support the office in identifying and exploring new uses of technology including AI to increase operational efficiencies

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree plus at least 2 years of professional experience in data analysis and integration or Master's degree
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Self-motivated to seek proactive solutions for operational efficiency
Ability to work under limited supervision
Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people
Must be a US citizen or permanent resident due to federal government requirements for SEVIS access

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Peoplesoft, Slate, Google Analytics,Tableau
Previous experience as a DSO and/or ARO
Familiarity with data integration platforms such as Dell Boomi
Experience with and interest in emerging technologies such as AI
Familiarity with SEVIS protocols and Sunapsis

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is dedicated to serving the University of Minnesota's international community.

Pay Range: $69,397.11 - $80,073.60; depending on education/qualifications/experience
