84 Lumber is seeking an experienced and motivated Truss Design Manager to lead our truss design operations and support the continued growth of our manufacturing business.

The Truss Design Manager will oversee the design and layout of roof and floor truss systems, provide technical guidance to the design team, ensure designs meet applicable building codes and engineering requirements, and work closely with sales, manufacturing, customers, and other internal teams to ensure projects are completed accurately and efficiently.

This position is ideal for an experienced truss designer or design professional who is ready to take the next step into leadership and have a direct impact on the performance and development of a design team.

• Lead, manage, and develop a team of truss designers and design support personnel.
• Oversee the design of roof and floor truss systems using industry-standard design software.
• Review architectural plans, construction documents, and specifications to develop accurate truss layouts and designs.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, engineering requirements, and 84 Lumber standards.
• Review completed designs for accuracy, quality, constructability, and material efficiency.
• Provide technical support and guidance to designers when addressing complex projects or design challenges.
• Establish and maintain design standards, processes, and best practices.
• Monitor workload, project timelines, and design capacity to ensure deadlines are met.
• Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure designs translate effectively into production.
• Work closely with sales, estimating, project management, and customers to resolve design-related issues.
• Assist with troubleshooting production or field issues related to truss design.
• Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, accuracy, and overall productivity.
• Train and mentor new and existing design team members.
• Stay current on building codes, industry standards, design technology, and best practices.
• Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and performance development of design team members.
• Support special projects and other initiatives as assigned.

• 5+ years of experience in truss design, engineered wood products, structural design, or a related field.
• Previous leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of roof and floor truss design principles.
• Experience with MiTek, Sapphire, or similar truss design software preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
• Strong understanding of residential construction and building practices.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to coach, mentor, and develop members of a design team.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field is preferred but not required with relevant experience.

**Salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Interpretation and design of engineered components and panels from architectural prints to produce placement layouts and engineered truss drawings.

Supervise and direct designers' work to ensure accurate designs.

Scheduling design work.

Managing and resolving customer related design issues and other miscellaneous design issues.

Developing designer's skills to enable them to advance through the design levels.

Effective communication with other teams, including sales, production, customer service and management
