Position Highlights

The Brand Communications Team within the College of Medicine - Tucson (COM-T) is seeking a web content manager. The web content manager will oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the college's website. The successful candidate will have strong writing and editing skills, knowledge of best practices for web writing and navigation, the ability to work collaboratively, and high attention to detail to ensure consistency across the college's many webpages.

The Brand Communications Team recognizes that there may be a learning curve for anyone stepping into this role, but is seeking candidates who can hit the ground running with a strong grasp of Associated Press style guidelines. Depending on the web content manager's skills and interests, and to complement other team members' skills, there may be opportunities for cross-training in other areas, such as photography, photo editing, video, and graphic design.

Duties & Responsibilities

Website maintenance

  • Edits, proofreads, and manages content
  • Audits and updates existing web content to reflect changes in programs, policies, and events, or to improve navigation, readability, or aesthetics.
  • Promptly processes submissions to moderation queue to ensure revisions made by content editors adhere to web best practices, Associated Press style guidelines, university style guidelines, college style guidelines, etc.
  • Applies profile guidelines to ensure consistency across all faculty, staff, and trainee profiles; unpublishes profiles when people have left the college.
  • Ensures website content complies with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, including copyright, privacy, and accessibility requirements.
  • Creates new webpages when needed, which involves writing clearly and concisely, editing provided content, and formatting information in a visually appealing manner.
  • Sources visuals, such as original photos and stock photos, and ensures proper sizing and resolution.
  • Supports website consolidation project, which involves adapting source material to adhere to new templates and web best practices, and formatting it in QuickStart for visual appeal. There are approximately 20 websites that remain to be consolidated with medicine.arizona.edu.

Website support

  • Holds regular "office hours" and ad hoc meetings to support content editors, including guiding them on following proper processes and procedures for web best practices, and showing them how to make desired changes, with the goal of helping content editors be more self-sufficient.
  • Holds an annual refresher on updating resident and fellow profiles in late June.
  • Maintains a collection of how-to guides for content editors, e.g., written documentation and Zoom recordings stored on Box or SharePoint.

Analytics and metrics reporting

  • Creates analytics/metrics reports to show impact of team's work.
  • Uses analytics and metrics to inform improvements to the team's overarching communications strategy.
  • May perform quantitative/qualitative analysis of survey results to inform improvements in processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong writer and editor with solid command of Associated Press style guidelines.
  • Command of University of Arizona style guidelines, or the ability to quickly internalize these guidelines.
  • Strong copy editing and content editing skills, including the ability to edit for space, repetitive or inaccurate content, and readability.
  • Web design proficiency (proficiency in Drupal QuickStart 3.0 and/or experience creating/editing websites and trainable in QuickStart).
  • Highly adept at writing effectively for a variety of audiences.
  • High attention to detail to ensure consistency across website.
  • Must have the ability to work with multiple stakeholders and audiences, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to state issues clearly and concisely, and respond promptly and courteously with a customer service mindset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to create analytics/metrics reports and perform quantitative/qualitative analysis of survey results.
  • General understanding of the industry practices, techniques, and standards with respect to writing for the web, accessibility, navigation, aesthetics, etc.
  • Ability to work with moderate guidance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (digital marketing, communications, etc.)
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Basic understanding of HIPAA and FERPA laws and compliance
  • Basic health/science literacy
  • Basic photo editing skills (cropping, resizing)
  • Familiarity with design principles and best practices for web writing
  • Skill in Drupal QuickStart 3.0
  • Expertise in analytics/metrics, e.g., Google Analytics, Altmetric
