Role Description & Responsibilities The SOLIDWORKS User Experience Design team is a multidisciplinary group of user experience designers, graphic designers, user researchers, and engineers. We are responsible for the experience and interface of SOLIDWORKS products, from desktop CAD software to web and mobile applications. We also build internal tools that turn large volumes of research content into a searchable, structured knowledge base that can be queried and summarized on demand. As a Platform Intern, you'll join a small team of development interns who use AI-assisted tools (Claude Code, Cursor) to build internal tools across the R&D organization. Your work will help make a large and growing body of internal content easy to find and use, instead of leaving it scattered across disconnected files and folders. Your projects may include: Metadata & Tagging: Implement project and session metadata (product area, method, topic) and a tagging system across sessions, quotes, and themes. Quote Bank: Build on an in-progress feature that surfaces and structures evidence linked to its source records. Content Summarization: Rework summary and theme-extraction prompts to use domain-specific framing rather than generic meeting-notes framing. Search & Filtering: Extend the existing hybrid (semantic + keyword) search with metadata-based filters. AI-Assisted Development: Use tools like Claude Code or Cursor to move quickly within an existing FastAPI, Next.js, and pgvector codebase. Qualifications What you'll bring: Initiative: You don't wait to be told what to do, and you look for ways to improve the system. Comfort with ambiguity: The source data is messy, and you'll make judgment calls about how to structure it. Fast learning: You pick up new tools and frameworks quickly, with mentor support. Clear communication with non-engineers: You'll build for a non-technical internal audience, so understanding their workflow matters. Salary Pay Transparency Compensation for the role will be commensurate with experience. The total expected compensation range will be between $19 and $36 per hour.
