Help Protect a Mission That Changes Lives.

Legal expertise can minimize risk. Great legal leadership can create opportunity.

At Mosaic, we're driven by one purpose: relentlessly pursuing opportunities that empower people. Every day, we support individuals through our multi-state Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) programs to live meaningful lives within their communities-and we're looking for an experienced legal professional to help us protect and advance that mission.

This is more than an in-house legal role.

As Counsel within our Office of the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), you'll serve as a hands-on, day-to-day legal, compliance, and risk partner.

If you're energized by solving complex problems, building collaborative relationships, and making a meaningful impact through your legal expertise, we'd love to meet you.

Why You'll Love This Opportunity

  • Partner directly with our Chief Legal Officer and cross-functional teams
  • Influence strategy and day-to-day operations across a multi-state organization
  • Work on meaningful legal matters that directly support people and caring communities
  • Collaborate across Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and External Affairs
  • Join a mission-driven team where your work truly matters

What You'll Do In This Role

No two days look exactly alike, and that's part of what makes this role exciting.

You'll:

  • Serve as a key legal partner to business operations, compliance, external affairs, and risk teams on operational questions, regulatory requirements, and claims management.
  • Partner closely with Compliance and Risk on federal and state regulatory matters, including HIPAA/HITECH, Medicaid program integrity standards, and state-specific Medicaid/HCBS waiver rules.
  • Draft, redline, and negotiate operational agreements, including MCO agreements, funding contracts, staffing agreements, leases, and vendor contracts.
  • Oversee claims and litigation, coordinating with outside counsel, insurance, and risk management as applicable.
  • Support corporate governance, including annual filings, board resolutions, meeting minutes, and governance documentation.
  • Support legal due diligence and strategic corporate transactions.
  • Translate complex legal concepts into practical, actionable advice for non-legal operators and cross-functional teams.

About Mosaic

At Mosaic, our mission is simple but powerful: Relentlessly pursuing opportunities that empower people.

Every role contributes to creating meaningful lives in caring communities where every individual has a voice, belongs, and is empowered to reach their full potential. Our values of Belonging, Connection, Faithfulness, and Grit guide everything we do.

What You Bring

We are looking for someone who combines strong legal expertise with exceptional judgment, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensure: Active state bar membership in good standing; must be eligible for, and after hire, obtain admission to the Nebraska bar or register as in-house counsel.
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant legal experience (in-house legal department or law firm setting).
  • Healthcare Knowledge: Strong legal background in operations, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution/litigation, or government healthcare programs (Medicaid/Medicare, payor models, HCBS waivers) preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Experience drafting, redlining, and negotiating healthcare operations agreements and corporate governance documents. Working knowledge of Google Suite preferred.
  • Travel: Ability to travel, drive, and maintain a flexible schedule as needed for organizational priorities.

Who Thrives Here:

  • You take initiative, work independently, and balance multiple competing deadlines with ease.
  • You exercise absolute discretion when managing sensitive legal and corporate information.
  • You communicate clearly, think strategically, and approach challenges with curiosity, patience, and sound judgment in a team environment.
  • You believe legal teams should enable smart decisions and practical solutions-not simply identify risk.
  • Most importantly, you believe your legal career can be about more than practicing law-it can be about improving lives.
