Municipal Modeling Engineer

Location: Farmington Hills, Lansing, or Grand Rapids, Michigan

Employment Type: Full-Time

For over 70 years Fishbeck has been building. As a 100% employee-owned firm, every team member has a stake in what we build together-our work, our reputation, and our future. Now we need to add a Municipal Modeling Engineer to help us keep building.

Working with our municipal modeling team, you will analyze flow monitoring data, develop and calibrate hydraulic models, and support collection system planning studies for municipal clients. This position requires self-motivation, a commitment to high-quality work, strong planning, organization, and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a project team environment.

What You'll Do

  • Review sanitary flow monitoring data for quality.
  • Perform calculations using flow monitoring data to analyze flow patterns and wet-weather flow contributions.
  • Develop and calibrate storm and sanitary sewer hydraulic models.
  • Support planning studies for municipalities addressing collection system capacity and wet-weather issues.
  • Assist with written reports for wastewater master plans, basis-of-design reports, and flow monitoring and modeling technical memoranda.
  • Communicate and work directly with senior modeling staff on modeling and sewer master plan projects.
  • Collaborate with technical staff across Fishbeck offices to provide consulting engineering services for municipalities and public and private universities.
  • Interact daily with project teams in a multidisciplinary, multi-office environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification.
  • 4+ years of experience with flow monitoring, modeling, and analysis of sanitary and storm sewer collection systems.
  • Experience with EPA SWMM and PCSWMM; experience with InfoWorks ICM is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
  • Ability to work under normal office conditions, including prolonged sitting and computer use, with occasional lifting and carrying.
  • Ability to travel to and maneuver around project sites for client and project meetings and site observations.
  • Ability to use technical equipment for communication and documentation, with the visual acuity necessary to perform job responsibilities.

What We Offer

Our staff members enjoy a comprehensive compensation package that includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Wellness reimbursement and activities
  • Reimbursement and support for tuition, continuing education, and professional/personal development
  • Vacation and sick time, volunteer PTO, parental leave, and paid holidays
  • Opportunities for hybrid and flexible schedules
  • 401(k), profit sharing, and stock ownership opportunities (employee ownership)
  • And more!
