The Senior Consultant will provide subject matter expertise and expert writing skills to develop compelling, error-free, climate-related communications (for example, speeches, talking points, presentations, and other products) for diverse audiences.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Please note you will be asked to demonstrate how to do each of these tasks during a panel interview. You must show that you have developed a Communication Strategy, Stakeholder Management Plan, Tactical Comms Plans, or comms to facilitate partnering across multiple stakeholder groups.



  • Design and develop a comprehensive communication strategy, including use of cutting edge technology, behavioral science, and unique approaches to communicate technical information to diverse audiences
  • Develop or contribute to high-quality, error-free communication products, including speeches, scripts, talking points, presentations, briefing memos, press releases, fact sheets, reports, case studies, storytelling products, and other communications
  • Provide content and input for videos, web content, infographics, visualizations and other products to ensure consistent messaging
  • Meet with the client, as needed, to discuss the specific audience, structure, content, points of emphasis, and style for speeches and communication products
  • Develop and submit outlines for approval, as requested
  • Research facts and specific information to be included in the speech or communication product
  • Maintain awareness of climate-related current events and literature to support the development of communication products
  • Ensure consistent messaging, facts, and branding for all communications
  • Provide advisory support to assist the client with speech delivery
  • Review/edit communication products and make recommendations for improvement
  • Adjudicate and incorporate client feedback
  • As needed, coordinate with the client's Public Affairs Office
  • Assist with special presentations, as requested
  • Present materials, when requested
  • Provide meeting support, including planning, material development, and notetaking
  • Maintain a repository of communication products
  • Must possess integrity and be service focused at all times
  • Exhibit flexibility and resilience with both client organizations and SRE
  • Must possess a drive for continual learning and professional growth
  • Leads the analysis, review, development, test and inspection of business process improvement, program management, and solution implementation efforts
  • Applies strong analytical and technical skills to document findings in accordance with approved quality procedures and standards
  • Works independently, interacts with clients and delivers presentations


Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 8 years of experience in related field
  • Master's degree and minimum of 2 years of experience in related field
  • Demonstrated experience developing a nationwide communications strategy
  • Demonstrated experience in using storytelling to communicate key messages


Skills:



  • Ability to identify gaps in communication materials and proactively address gaps
  • Familiarity with change management and communications necessary to ensure successful implementation
  • Ability to create polished speeches from disparate communications materials, such as talking points, presentations, emails, and climate mitigation and adaptation resources (Fourth National Climate Assessment, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
  • Ability to understand the needs of different audiences and develop tailored communications for internal and external audiences
  • Understanding of how to develop and track effectiveness of communications through metrics and adjusting communications based on metrics (for all mediums, not just web)
  • An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills
  • Critical Thinking: understand the desired outcome and key considerations, analyze the available information, and make recommendations to achieve the desired outcome through communications
  • Attention to Detail: the successful candidate will be cognizant of key messages and ensure consistent language is used
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player

  • Must have experience and be an expert with Windows, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Gmail, Citrix ShareFile (or other online repositories), and online meeting platforms such as MS Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom


Compensation:

The estimated salary range for this position is estimated to be $80,000 - $150,000/year. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. SRE considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. Additionally, SRE adheres to all state and federal requirements regarding salary to ensure compliance with applicable labor laws. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SRE's total compensation package for employees.

Work Environment:

The primary work location of this position is Washington D.C. Metro area, remote work is allowed but not guaranteed. If you live outside the commutable area, travel expenses are not reimbursed to the primary work location.
