Coordinator - Grade 9 Support

Baltimore City Public Schools prioritizes the research indicating that students who are successful in Grade 9 are more likely to graduate on time. This coordinator will be responsible for two key strategies being implemented in schools in an effort to support success for our Grade 9 students: Freshman Houses and On Track to Graduate. This coordinator will need to support our school-based Grade 9 coordinator in their role while supporting how our processes and best practices are being consistently implemented across our high schools.


Essential Functions



  • Provides direction to team and school-based Grade 9 coordinators on how to establish and implement Freshman House structures.
  • Provides leadership, guidance and support to our central office On Track to Graduate Team (OTG) with data analysis and data cycles that allow them to support OTG work in schools.
  • Leads the development of processes that are grounded in continuous improvement in order to develop and refine structures that are iterative in schools.
  • Supports the development of coaching and professional learning sessions for Grade 9 coordinators for how to maintain manual and electronic files and/or records that are needed to implement robust Freshman Houses and an articulated OTG process in schools.
  • Maintains our partnership with Johns Hopkins University and regularly participates in metric meetings regarding our Grade 9 cohort.
  • Responsible for the design and delivery of all professional learning to Grade 9 coordinators. This includes the development of a learning arc and working with the coordinator of professional learning in order to establish outcomes and objectives.
  • Ensures that school leaders are kept abreast of the professional learning provided to Grade 9 coordinators, and develops a mechanism for on-going communication with school leaders.
  • Works collaboratively with school leaders on assessing the implementation of the role of the Grade 9 coordinator in schools.
  • Works collaboratively across offices to ensure alignment in central office support to high school leaders and staff.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Master's degree in education, or related field. Degree (s) must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience, 9th grade experience preferred.
  • High school leadership experience is preferred.
  • Experience with coaching adults preferred.
  • Knowledge of developing and monitoring the implementation of project implementation plans.
  • Knowledge of establishing systems and structures of high school structures that support students in Grade 9 inclusive of On Track Graduate.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures preferred.
