Role Description
By operating radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic X-ray images as directed by physicians and performing routine diagnostic procedures, the Mammography Technologist serves the patient, physician and other support staff.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Specialize in production of screening and diagnostic x-rays for detection of breast tumors
  • Position patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician. Explain procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation
  • Move x-ray equipment into specified position and adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance, based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols. Select length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basis
  • Practice radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patient and staff
  • Follow prescribed safety standards in operating all required radiological equipment
  • Examine radiologic images for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification and distortion
  • Process radiographic images and send to PACS. Process routine paperwork. Maintain X-ray storage and filing
  • Ensure equipment is in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:



  • Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA approved (2-year) school and meets the requirements for registry by the ARRT
  • Current Oregon license in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Current healthcare level CPR/BLS certification
  • 1+ years of mammography experience



Preferred Qualification:



  • Epic and PACS experience
