Position Summary
This position will be a full-time laboratory manager for Dr. Pulaski's clinical and diagnostic parasitology lab, which includes the Parasitology Section of the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The employee will be responsible for laboratory management tasks, assisting with parasitology research, diagnostics, and outreach, and assisting with teaching of veterinary students and clinician-centered education. The employee is expected to provide support to diagnostic technicians, students, and other staff, and for work conducted on behalf of the Pulaski Lab.
This position involves a detail-oriented individual who has strong organization skills and would be successful working in a collaborative, open, and creative translational science laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Prior experience working with animals and biological specimens (e.g., feces, blood) and/or experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Experience using a microscope/dissecting scope.
  • The ideal candidate will be detailed-oriented, flexible, and can manage multiple priorities, with excellent organization, communication, and project management skills.

  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may involve prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties.

Lab management:

  • Plan and oversee the day-to-day requirements in the Pulaski Lab to ensure efficient and effective operations, including, but not limited to, delegating/organizing work activities, developing/implementing schedule of experiments, and supplies/inventory management.
  • May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees working on projects or assignments throughout the year.

  • Ensure quality diagnostic service relative to scope of job duty, including, but not limited to, customer support of internal and external clients, inventory management, review of test offerings, specimen collection, specimen processing, turn-around time, charges, and invoicing.
