The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Neurological Surgery is seeking to recruit an experienced outpatient Nurse Practitioner to provide clinical care and clinical research in collaboration with the attending physicians. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for evaluating and managing patients with neurological conditions that may require neurosurgery. Recent NP graduates are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities



  • Perform and document a complete medical history and physical examination to formulate diagnoses and treatment plan.
  • Order and review appropriate laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  • Review preoperative medical clearance and optimize patients as needed.
  • Prescribe medications and make appropriate referrals.
  • Manage patients via telephone, telehealth, or in-person appointments.
  • Consult selected patients in routine follow-up and for urgent same-day and next-day appointments.
  • Assist in the coordination of the operative schedule prior to surgery.
  • Coordinate admissions and collaborate with the inpatient team during daily rounds.
  • Provide patient education both pre-operatively and post-operatively.
  • Refer to specialists and multidisciplinary care team members.
  • Participate in division-specific clinical conferences, which include weekly NP conferences, departmental grand rounds, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Participate in research protocols using Good Clinical Practices (GCP) related to patient care.
  • Provide coverage of vacant roles.
  • Provide coverage for Nurse Practitioners on leave of absence.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) With prescriptive privileges (or eligibility).
  • A minimum of 4 years of nursing experience in addition to a current New York State NP and RN license (or eligibility).


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in neurosurgery, neurology, critical care, or emergency department care.
  • Recent NP graduates are welcome to apply.


Other Requirements



  • BLS Certification; DEA Certification and Board Certification by ANCC, or AANP (or eligibility).
  • Must be able to meet credentialing requirements by NYPH.
