Position description

Position Description - Chief, Division of Endodontics

The UCSF Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences is seeking a full-time 1.0 FTE Endodontist faculty member to lead the Division of Endodontics. Responsibilities including support of predoctoral and advanced education levels, including lectures, seminars, laboratory, and clinical mentoring with activities covering all areas of endodontics from diagnosis and treatment planning through endodontic procedures and recall. The candidate must be a graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited Advanced Education Program in Endodontics. Preference will be given to candidates with academic and clinical experience, and with demonstrated expertise with advanced technologies. The candidate should have prior experience in dental education and demonstrated ability to work productively in didactic and clinical educational environments. The preferred candidate will have a history of publications and involvement in research/scholarly activity. Productivity in USCF Dental Center faculty practice is required. Candidates must have a US DDS or DMD degree (or foreign equivalent) and be eligible for dental licensure or special permit in the State of California. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The position reports to the Chair of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences and works collaboratively with faculty within the department and across the UCSF Dental Center. The faculty member who fills this position will support PRIDE values and demonstrate professional behaviors that promote a positive, productive, caring, and inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, residents, student, and patients. The individual who fills this position will in general have the following responsibilities:

Teaching



  1. Actively serve as an effective clinician-educator as measured by quantitative and qualitative assessments.
  2. Contribute and support learning in pre-doctoral lab courses, and/or pre-/post-doctoral clinics and/or classroom instruction, and receiving above-average student, resident, and peer evaluations.
  3. Contribute as assigned the pre-doctoral program, inclusive of its curriculum, clinical competencies, and the preparation of students for the licensing board exam.
  4. Contribute to curriculum maintenance and innovation. Support didactic and clinical learning using best evidence.
  5. Develop, administer, and provide informal/formal student performance assessments. Plan and provide student assessments. Participate in faculty peer review.
  6. Contribute as assigned to advanced-education programs, directors, and residents in PRDS and throughout the UCSF Dental Center.
  7. Establish and maintain effective and productive professional interactions for predoctoral and advanced program successes.


Research/Scholarship



  1. Collaborate with faculty and serve as a mentor for students/residents regarding research and scholarly activities leading to grants, presentations, and publication.
  2. Participate in department research/scholarly activity initiatives and preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  3. Expand research collaborations intra- and inter-institutionally based on background and experience.


Patient Care



  1. Provide patient care in the UCSF Dental Center faculty practice.
  2. Generate practice productivity that meets or exceed established performance goals.
  3. Maintain quality standards for compliance with all UCSF policies.


Service



  1. Participate in approved efforts that support UCSF, the profession, and the public.
  2. Lead or serve on Dentistry and UCSF level committees and support other professional service activities that are appropriate for the assigned role. This may include but is not limited to institutional and/or professional organization activities such as committees, leadership, continuing education, outreach, etc.
  3. Provide continuing education.
  4. Support and comply will all policies and practices relative to position and responsibilities. Examples include maintenance of professional licensure, completion of mandatory annual/bi-annual training (e.g. HIPAA, BLS), completion of UCSF compliance training.
  5. Guide and support faculty recruitment, development, and retention.
  6. Encourage and support faculty research and scholarly activity leading to grants, presentations, and publications.
  7. Demonstrate fiduciary responsibility as a departmental leader who supports departmental finances, as well as all institutional policies and procedures.
  8. Ensure a high-quality learning environment with engaged faculty.
  9. Support quality clinical care at all venues, including an ongoing quality improvement program
  10. Support the vision and mission of the institution, school of dentistry, and department through department goals and objectives
  11. Engage and motivate faculty


The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $112,500-$297,200. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
