Job Summary:



This faculty member in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy will have the primary responsibility of providing exemplary patient care as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the outpatient Special Care Clinic (SCC) of Children's Hospital Colorado based on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. Children's Hospital Colorado is a private, not-for-profit pediatric healthcare system which has been consistently ranked as one of the best children's hospitals in the country. The SCC, a multidisciplinary ambulatory practice, is one of the nation's largest special needs clinics dedicated to the care of children with medical complexity, offering primary and consultative care to this vulnerable population. The SCC cares for a heterogeneous patient population of children with genetic disorders, developmental/neurodevelopmental disabilities, complex chronic medical conditions, and high-risk neonates, as a few examples. Primary clinical responsibilities of this position include providing direct patient care, resolving medication-related problems, participating in collaborative practice agreements, and serving as a medication expert to the SCC while providing care to children and youth with complex health care needs. This faculty member will collaborate with a clinical faculty partner in the SCC to provide exemplary care to patients and families, further develop innovative clinical services for patients and providers, and further develop this clinic as a model practice and training site. The faculty member will also play an active role in the clinical education of pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and other healthcare professionals through experiential training in the SCC. Successful candidates for this position would have opportunities to teach in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum in required and elective courses. In addition, successful candidates for this position are expected to engage in scholarly activities that help document the value of clinical pharmacy services and improvements in patient care and outcomes in the SCC. Finally, this faculty member will provide service to the school and the pharmacy profession. The allocation of time related to this position is approximately 90% in clinical patient care and related activities occurring in the clinic (e.g. experiential education, scholarship) and 10% in academic responsibilities such as professional service and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Engage in providing clinical care services in the area of pediatric ambulatory care in the SCC.
  • *Function as an interdisciplinary member of the patient care teams to support all medication management activities in the SCC.
  • Establish collaborative working relationships with clinic providers and staff to become a valued and contributing team member.
  • Work with clinic providers, staff, and administration to develop and implement clinic- and population-level medication interventions targeted to improve quality metrics.
  • Work collaboratively with providers, clinic staff, and care managers to reduce adverse drug events and improve medication management for care transitions and complex or high utilizing patients.
  • Educate staff and providers regarding medication management best practices including updates on new medications and clinical guidelines, chronic disease state management, and others.
  • Provide quality teaching services in the School of Pharmacy Doctor of Pharmacy program. Teaching includes preparing and presenting lectures and active learning sessions, precepting student Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), evaluating student performance using various assessment methods, and mentoring and advising students.
  • Provide clinical instruction and mentoring to pediatric pharmacy residents at CHCO.
  • Participate in a scholarly program focused on clinical pharmacist activities in the SCC. Scholarly activity may include conducting projects which document and establish the value of clinical pharmacy services and clinical interventions, writing manuscripts relevant to patient care activities in the SCC and that are published in peer-reviewed academic journals, and presenting abstracts or educational presentations at professional meetings.
  • Participate in professional service activities such as university or school committee work, participation in professional organizations, and attendance at seminars, conferences, special courses, and scientific meetings.


Work Location: This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Applicants must have a PharmD degree
  • Completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency training in pediatrics, or a similar program
  • Candidates must have, or be eligible for, pharmacist licensure in Colorado.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Completed a PGY2 residency program (or equivalent experience) in pediatrics
  • Board certification in an area appropriate for this position such as pediatrics, ambulatory care or pharmacotherapy (BCPPS, BCACP, BCPS)
  • Previous academic experience

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $126,000-137,000, depending on previous experience.
