DEPARTMENT: After School Program, Alhambra Campus

LOCATION: Sacramento, CA

SUPERVISOR: After School Program Coordinator

STATUS: Non-Exempt - Part-Time (25 hours)

BASIC PURPOSE

The Program Lead is responsible for assisting leaders and staff of the Sacramento Alhambra Campus in providing safe and developmentally appropriate After School Program (ASP) and Summer Day Camp (SDC) programs for youth. Under the supervision and direction of the ASP Coordinator, the Program Lead is responsible for creating a safe, enriching, and fun environment for youth in the program. In addition, the Program Lead will lead a chosen group of children (class) in homework assistance, tutoring, creative arts, and recreational activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Ability to relate to children in a manner which contributes to their personal growth.
  2. Ability to competently prevent and deal with discipline problems.
  3. Ability to plan and carry - out lesson plans (content areas: science, math, language, art, physical education).
  4. Ability to plan and conduct an educational "circle" activity.
  5. Ability to organize active indoor and outdoor games and learning activities.
  6. Ability to work cooperatively with staff and parents.
  7. Ability to supervise children in independent activities and prevent exposure to safety hazards.
  8. Adhere to The Salvation Army's "Protecting the Mission Policy for Working with Minor's"
  9. Sit with children during all meal - times and eat the same "Type A" snack as the children to provide a model for good nutritional habits *unless modified meals are prescribed by a physician's statement.
  10. Adhere to policies under the Community Care Licensing (Title 22) requirements and the program's philosophy for K-6 as well as Title 5 requirements of the Pre-School.
  11. Assume the teacher's full role in the absence of the teacher and assist with substitute teacher to cover that location.
  12. Provides constant supervision of children while involved in The Salvation Army's programs. Implement lessons for daily activities with children or adults, also assist and collaborate with the teacher, other staff, or any supervisor in the creation of lesson plans.
  13. Assist in any Christmas related activities, events, or programs such as bell ringing or driving.
  14. Assist with checking children in and out of program at the front desk when needed.
  15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS



  1. Minimum 6 units in the areas of education, recreation, kinesiology, physical education, social sciences, education, arts, Early Childhood Education and/or liberal studies from an institution of higher education or minimum of two years of experience working with youth in a related environment or field.
  2. Must be able to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbal and written, while providing a positive model for English language development.
  3. Must be positive, flexible, creative, and organized.
  4. Must possess good people skills and the ability to interact positively with children and adults.
  5. Must have knowledge of the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity towards working with a diverse child and family population.
  6. Have knowledge of the CACFP rules and requirements concerning preparing and serving food and kitchen sanitization practices.
  7. Adheres to The Salvation Army's "Protecting the Mission Policy for Work with


Minors." Makes recommendations for child safety improvements in the Community Center.

8.Relay updates regarding the programs to the donors and community partners to the Community Hub program. This will include emails, letters, and phone calls. 9.Maintains a healthy relationship with program participants, parents, and partners, including promoting Salvation Army programs.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS



  1. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's license.
  2. The ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  4. Complete The Salvation Army's Decision Driving course training.
  5. Must pass TB test/physician clearance.
  6. Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint clearance with the FBI and DOJ, without a waiver.
  7. Must be certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED, or willing to take training.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  2. Specific vision abilities required by this position include color vision.
  3. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
  4. Ability to reach overhead.
  5. Ability to operate telephone.
  6. Ability to lift-up to 30 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
  7. Ability to operate a computer.
  8. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
  9. Must have uninhibited physical mobility in bending, jumping, and lifting to 30lbs, be capable of auditory and visual, oversight of the children and staff, and be able to verbally interact with the children and staff, Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
