Job Summary:



The division consists of 32 faculty dedicated to leading research, developing innovative clinical care and teaching future rheumatologists on the Anschutz Medical Campus and across four affiliated hospitals. The mission of the Division of Rheumatology is to provide outstanding education, transformative patient care and impactful research to improve the lives of patients with rheumatic disease. The Division has continued to grow into a nationally recognized leader working to change the future of rheumatic and autoimmune disease care through discovery, innovation, and practices that emphasize equity and inclusion for all members.

Key Responsibilities:

This is a 0.5 FTE position based at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The appointee will develop both independent and collaborative research programs externally funded through government, foundation, and/or industry mechanisms. The research program will be focused on host-microbe interactions in the development of inflammatory arthritis and eye disease. The role will include being a central participant in the development and expansion of the scientific focus of the VA research community and requires VA appointment. Additionally, participation in collaborative research and training activities of the Division of Rheumatology within the Department of Medicine, the Department of Ophthalmology, and the Section of Rheumatology within the Department of Pediatrics will be a major component of the position. Participating in all three inter-related missions of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, including clinical care, teaching and scholarly productivity are expected. Candidates should demonstrate strong research, interpersonal and communication skills and will be expected to positively interact with technical and professional colleagues, residents and fellows at the University of Colorado Hospital and University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Examples of Work Performed:



  1. Execute an independent research program in the area of host-microbe interactions in the development of inflammatory arthritis and eye disease with productivity measured in publications and funding.
  2. Collaboration with researchers to expand the research mission of the university.
  3. Hire, supervise and manage research personnel and trainees ranging from those who are highly skilled to entry level.


Work Location: This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

The Division of Rheumatology has major research and clinical focus on immunobiology of human synovial tissue from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and collaborates with immunology, bioinformatics and multi-disciplinary clinical programs across the School of Medicine providing an ideal career development environment for a physician researcher focused on rheumatic and autoimmune diseases.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • PhD or equivalent
  • Appointment at VA
  • Research background and history of external funded research projects in host-microbe interactions in the development of inflammatory arthritis and eye disease.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with clinicians, patients and clinical research personnel at an academic medical center or research hospital.
  • Be able to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$120,000-$160,000 (based on full time FTE; part time will be prorated).

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
