Our company is seeking a 1st Pressman for 3rd shift 10pm-6am Sunday-Thursday.
Job Purpose: To direct the press crew that are operating the printing press, putting on ink or other coatings on paper according to written specification through the inline finishing, ensuring proper quality and waste control. Essential Functions:
- Reads instructions from the job jacket, sets up and directs the work of the press crew.
- Produce and approve preliminary make-ready; after final approval, direct press operation to meet customer specifications.
- Inform press crew of job specifications and production requirements; verify all measurements, packing, ink, film, plates, ink tack, PH levels, web temperatures, etc.
- Recognize and eliminate printing problems such as picking, piling, ghosting, poor ink trapping, register, etc.; correct deficiencies and monitor safe press operations including proper guarding.
- Train press crews in work skills; aid them to improve their competency by cross-training during press set-up and operations.
- Demonstrate mechanical competency with the inking, dampening, printing units, feeder, inline, and delivery systems and controls
- Develop work improvements and procedures; solve problems as needed; report needed repairs; recommend equipment needs to Plant Manager; perform maintenance and housekeeping functions.
- Demonstrate technical competencies with color, quality, paper, ink, blankets and fountain solution
- Use measuring accessories such as blanket gauge, densitometer, durometer, PH meter packing gauge, or micrometer as needed.
- Responsible for quality of ink jet imaging including position and synchronization.
- Effectively communicate with crew and supervisors.

- Report time and production results accurately, be on time to work, work overtime when requested to meet the needs of our customers.
- Improve skills, suggest improvements, cooperate with other departments, and improve knowledge of SG360-Gilman Web Facility and the graphic arts industry.
- Follow proper work procedures, comply with SG360-Gilman Web Facility policies and obey safety and security rules.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Requirements Education/Experience: Five (5) years of previous web offset printing press experience. Physical:
- Must be able to occasionally lift 30 to 65 pounds.
- Must be able to walk, stand, or climb for entire work shift (8 or 12 hours).
- Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 2200 pounds on hand lift truck.
- May be exposed to hot/humid and/or dusty work environment.
- May be exposed to controlled non-toxic chemical mists or vapors.
- Must be able to pass color differentiation test and maintain that capability.
Mental:
- Must be able to read and understand written instructions.
- Position requires some mechanical aptitude.
- Position may require some mathematical calculations.
Technical:
- Must have general knowledge of manufacturing operations.
- Ability to read and understand technical press layouts, set-up instructions and production instructions.
