Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role manages and leads strategic Core R&D projects from concept to industrial stage. The Senior Product Development Engineer will leverage their flexible packaging and fiber expertise to help drive the Amcor sustainability agenda with a strong focus on 2D fiber-based products, supporting plastic to paper packaging evolution.

The role involves close collaboration with the Global Core R&D organization, regional segment R&D teams, procurement, plant technical teams and the product management team, to deliver profitable growth through innovative new product developments.

As a senior development engineer within the team, they play a pivotal role in steering the broader team agenda and possess the ability to utilize both internal and external networks effectively.

KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead, oversee, and ensure the timely completion of Core R&D fiber-based building block developments

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to create innovative fiber-based solutions, utilizing expertise in conversion technologies for flexible packaging

  • Drive customer satisfaction, both internally and externally, by supporting trials, product launches, and knowledge sharing initiatives

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of key packaging sustainability trends and regional differences

  • Maintain proper documentation of work and contribute to Amcor's knowledge base through training, teaching and sharing

  • Drive programs in stage gate process, taking projects from inception through industrialization

  • Support the global roll out of fiber platform products across various regions

  • Good understanding of IP concepts of FTO, patents and confidentiality, protecting ideas with new IP generation

  • Represent Amcor in external (research) consortia

  • Represent the Core R&D fiber team in project meetings

  • Develop clear project plans, establish targets, and manage costs effectively, providing regular updates and monthly reports

  • Participate in Global Innostreams in their field of expertise

  • Consulting other functions in their field of expertise

  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset in driving product and business development initiatives

WQUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree or comparable education in material science engineering / chemistry

  • 5+ years of technical experience, preferably in an R&D or manufacturing with a breadth of process knowledge

  • Experience / education in fiber based building blocks

  • Knowing the ins and outs of the flexible packaging industry (focus on paper applications)

  • Project management experience

  • Commercial acumen in a technical environment

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage design choices positively impacting market position

  • Experience leading product and process development projects with demonstrated sustained results

  • Demonstration of synthesizing information across a range of inputs and applying to business results

  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple technologies/processes leveraged to deliver value to the organization and business relationships

  • Ability to act as a group leader on specialized projects

  • Communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to clearly and succinctly communicate in written and spoken English.
