Job Description
Are you the kind of person who knows when a building doesn't sound right? Do you love fine-tuning HVAC systems until they run like a dream and take pride in keeping things perfectly calibrated?

We're looking for a HVAC/R Controls Engineer who can take charge of our facility's brain - the network of controls that runs our HVAC, lighting, energy, and safety systems. You'll manage, maintain, and optimize everything from chillers to lights to emergency generators - ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe operation every day. You'll work with multiple trades, guide maintenance efforts, program controls, and solve complex system puzzles - all while keeping compliance and performance at the forefront.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and fine-tune all BAS-controlled systems, including HVAC, lighting, irrigation, boilers, chillers, pumps, and more.

  • Program and install new control systems; update settings, calibrate sensors, and ensure everything is performing as designed.

  • Coordinate with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical shop leads to support the repair and maintenance of building equipment.

  • Perform regular system reviews, analyze performance data, and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliability.

  • Respond to alarms and failures, and conduct hands-on repair or adjustment of control systems using tools and technical documentation.

  • Train and guide other engineers and techs on BAS functions and processes.

  • Maintain detailed logs, reports, and compliance records in line with OSHA, TJC, NEC, NFC, and ASHRAE requirements.

What You Bring to the Team:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Universal Refrigerant Certification (EPA 608).

  • 5 years of experience in BAS installation, maintenance, and operation - or a combo of education and experience.

  • Deep understanding of HVAC systems and building controls.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, The Joint Commission, ASHRAE, and electrical/fire codes.

  • Skilled with technical diagrams, schematics, tools, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to work with and support maintenance staff.

  • Physically able to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 95 lbs, and wear a half-mask respirator.

  • Valid driver's license and compliance with fleet driving safety policy (if applicable).

Bonus Points For:

  • Formal technical training in HVAC Controls (e.g. trade school certification).

  • 2+ years of experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.

Why This Role Matters:

This isn't just a tech job - it's a mission-critical role in a healthcare environment where comfort, safety, and reliability directly impact patients and caregivers. Your skills help power everything from life-saving equipment to efficient energy use - and that's something to be proud of.
