In the role of Environmental Scientist, we'll count on you to
* Work on wide variety of environmental planning, environmental compliance, natural resources projects as they relate to
transportation projects.
* Work on environmental assessments/impact analysis and associated permitting and compliance monitoring for
transportation, and other infrastructure projects that require conformance with Federal/State Environmental Reviews.
* Work under the supervision of senior environmental scientists and managers.
* Assist with environmental permits, biological assessments, and NEPA, and similar study documents.
* Assist senior scientists with field work associated with the collection of natural resource data, such as wetland
delineation, mussel surveys, vegetation and habitat surveys.
* Assist scientists, planners and engineers in production of deliverables, and performing quality reviews and
documentation.
* Research and interpret scientific literature, regulatory programs, guidance and applications.
* Collect project-related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with
government agencies and clients, map reviews, field investigations for wetlands, natural resources, land use, etc.
* Assimilate and manage data, provide creative graphical representations of complex information.
* Work with geographic positioning tools and information systems.
* Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings
* Perform other related duties as needed.
* Prepare constraints mapping.
* Work independently on medium-size projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Travel may be required to project sites regionally and nationally.
  • Fieldwork will be required, and candidate must have the ability to work in field conditions and carry necessary tools and equipment
  • Experience in PA preferred, WVDOT, PennDOT, and/or PTC
  • Professional certifications such as PWS, CWB, AICP
  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments experience
  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
  • 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
