Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology's Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CArEE) Department seeks qualified applicants for the position of Kummer Endowed Department Chair. We are looking for a visionary and thoughtful leader who can inspire future engineers, foster innovation in the lab and in the classroom, manage the department's financial resources, and collaborate with our outstanding alumni. The Kummer Endowed Department Chair will enhance the visibility and rankings of our programs, grow student numbers and research in the department while helping to sculpt the infrastructure of tomorrow. As a Kummer Endowed Department Chair, the selected candidate will fulfill the required role of Kummer Endowed Chairs as outlined in https://kummerinstitute.mst.edu. The annual disbursement may be used to support departmental priorities, research, equipment, travel, and student assistantships. The Kummer Institute was recently established through a $300 million transformative gift focused on cultivating leadership and technological innovation, nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset, fostering expansion of academic-industry partnerships, and addressing the emerging needs of industry to create economic growth for our region, state, and nation.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field, have achieved the rank of full professor (or equivalent). Desirable qualifications include:

* Experience leading an academic organization in the role of department chair, associate chair, assistant chair, program director, or other similar leadership experience;

* Demonstrated success as a collaborative researcher, evidenced by a combination of published papers and externally funded projects;

* Demonstrated success as an effective teacher and passion for engineering education evidenced by a combination of student evaluation scores, peer reviews, or other markers of quality instruction;

* Experience supporting individuals (students and/or colleagues) from various backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives;

* Evidence of fostering and supporting an inclusive and collaborative working environment in one's department, research center, lab, or other workplace;

* Experience in fundraising and/or corporate development activities;

* Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills;

* A passion for nurturing the careers of others and other tangible demonstrations of servant leadership.

KUMMER COLLEGE

COLLEGE of ENGINEERING & COMPUTING (CEC)
Missouri S&T's College of Engineering and Computing is the largest of three colleges at S&T, accounting for approximately 80% of the total enrollment (about 4,500 undergraduates and 800 graduate students). The college includes more than 170 ranked faculty members who serve in 16 undergraduate programs, all with master's and doctoral equivalents organized into nine academic departments. The college recently added a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and a Ph.D. in bioengineering, both starting in fall 2024.
