https://journalism.uark.edu/ Summary of Job Duties:The School of Journalism and Strategic Media in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor to start in August 2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

This non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor will teach multiple core courses related to journalism and strategic media, including Media and Society, Media Writing, Ethics in Journalism, and Media Law. These courses support majors in Journalism and Advertising/Public Relations.

The Teaching Assistant Professor will initially contribute research and curricular support for the School of Journalism and Strategic Media's Center for Journalism Ethics, especially through publishing timely online content about media ethics and media literacy.

The Teaching Assistant Professor will have opportunities for projects in research, creative activities, and other scholarly activities, which may be related to the Center for Media Ethics in Journalism.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

About the School:
The School of Journalism and Strategic Media offers degree programs in Advertising/Public Relations and Journalism, with concentrations in multimedia storytelling and production, broadcast journalism and journalism. Students are trained in multiplatform news production, media analysis, campaign planning, social media, as well as television, radio and multimedia programming. The school offers numerous student media organizations and registered student organizations, an active community outreach program, award-winning faculty and a Center for Media Ethics in Journalism. Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate

  • Terminal degree in mass communications or related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment

  • Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach multiple core courses related to journalism and strategic media, including Media and Society, Media Writing, Ethics in Journalism, and Media Law. These courses support majors in Journalism and ADPR

  • A willingness to teach large-enrollment sections of core courses as needed

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute research and curricular support for the School's Center for Journalism Ethics, especially through publishing timely online content about media ethics and media literacy

  • A commitment to exceptional inclusive teaching at the undergraduate level

  • Evidence of ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team, the School of Journalism and Strategic Media, the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Arkansas, and relevant national service organizations

  • Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has collegiate teaching experience in a variety of courses, either as a full-time faculty member or a graduate assistant with lead-instructor duties

  • Honors and awards related to research publications and academic achievement

  • Research agenda including one or more of the following: minority representation in news media, feminist theory, role of intervening technologies on media literacy and news production

  • Commitment to building a scholarly environment through teaching, mentoring, research, outreach, and service for all

  • Demonstrates strong evidence of the ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant regional and national organizations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates an ability to thrive in bilingual setting to support community outreach for media literacy initiatives
