PURPOSE:

This position is responsible to oversee all employee safety related field activities including emergency response, OSHA compliance, industrial hygiene, and training to promote compliance with all procedures/policies and standards and to enhance the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Conducts plant safety audits and tours.
  • Maintains a presence in the work environment to build relationships, identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Oversees the maintenance, calibration and exceedance tracking of all gas detection systems including personal monitors.
  • Oversees the hot work, confined space, LOTO, and Safe Work Permitting programs to enhance safety of participants and comply with all OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Develops, trains, and maintains the Emergency Response Teams including Fire Brigade, HazMat, and Confined Space Rescue.
  • Interacts with outside agencies to promote effective emergency response.
  • Oversees Operation & Maintenance of emergency response equipment including plant Fire Systems, Extinguishers, Rescue Equipment, and Emergency Eyewash and Showers.
  • Arranges and oversees Industrial Hygiene monitoring.
  • Oversees field incident investigations and participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA's)
  • Actively participates in PSM PHA's and LOPA's
  • Develops and maintains Confined Space Inventory lists and Rescue Plans
  • Assists with ensuring the security of Calumet property.
  • Oversees confined space and hot work activities for safety and compliance.
  • Participates in safety reviews and audits for unit shutdowns and normal operations.
  • Performs line locating and marking for company pipeline.
  • Approves excavations on company property.
  • Audits for correct completion of safe work, hot work, confined space, and excavation permits.
  • Participates in emergency response activities.
  • Develops and performs reviews and updates to plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to work after hours and on weekends when necessary.
  • Responsible for coordinating all training activities for site personnel.
  • Responsible for ensuring HSE Training for site employees is current.
  • Oversees and ensures Site Safety Orientation for contractors.
  • Acts as primary contact for ISN for contractor qualification.
  • Is an active member of the in the plant Fire Brigade and HazMat Team.
  • Is a member of the mutual aid group established with the Calumet facilities located in Shreveport and Princeton, LA.
  • Develops and implements training and drills for ERT to assure the teams are capable of effective response.
  • Covers weekend on call duty on a rotation with management team
  • Manages Job Safety Analysis process
  • Other duties as assigned.



REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCES:



  • Associate's degree in science or equivalent with relevant safety experience.
  • 5+ years of Refinery, Chemical, or Industrial Safety experience.
  • Must be able to perform daily duties thorough out the plant and must be physically able to climb tanks and towers.
  • Physically able to perform the duties as an emergency responder for fires, spills, and high level / confined space rescue.
  • Must have good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, and other business software.
  • Ability to analyze regulatory and non-regulatory standards to determine best practices for Calumet.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.



PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCES:



  • Bachelor's degree in science or equivalent with relevant safety experience.
  • 10 or more years of Refinery, Chemical, or Industrial Safety experience.
  • ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, CSHO or equivalent professional credential.
  • VPP experience
