Primary Responsibilities
HDR's Bridge Engineer will: apply structural engineering and detailing techniques to bridge design and development; select bridge engineering/design procedures; develop structural analysis, design, and details using specialized software such as MicroStation, MathCAD, AutoCAD, LARSA, BGS, PGSuper, CSiBridge, and SAP2000; work on projects that include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete, post-tensioned concrete, segmental, and cable) retaining walls, box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects; perform structural load calculations; assist with geometric layout and quantity development; and review and assign work and check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and engineers-in-training as needed.
Required Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and 6 months' experience in structural engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and 2 years' experience in structural engineering.
Education must include coursework in Advanced Concrete Design, Advanced Steel Design, Finite Element Methods, and Earthquake Engineering. Work experience may substitute for coursework.
Required experience may include professional or internship experience, or experience as a graduate research or teaching assistant.
Must be proficient in: structural mechanics/mechanics of materials; technical report writing; finite element modeling; Prestress Concrete Design; AASHTO bridge design codes; and Texas Department of Transportation design standards. Proficiency may have been gained through academic program or professional/internship experience.
Must hold Engineer-in-Training certification or have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.
