HDR's Senior Architectural Coordinator in the Chicago office will work under supervision of a licensed Architect to evaluate, select and apply architectural techniques, procedures and modifications for assignments that require investigation of many variables in all phases of the architectural process. Duties include:

  • Evaluate, select, and apply architectural techniques, procedures and modifications for healthcare design projects, including inpatient and clinical facilities assignments;
  • Write architectural specifications;
  • Perform code reviews;
  • Assist with the development of design concepts;
  • Prepare graphic materials to communicate concepts;
  • Perform independent pre-design research on subject, context and precedents;
  • Build physical scale models of architectural concepts;
  • Develop Energy analysis models;
  • Assist in the cost estimation process during the design phase.
  • Evaluate, select and apply architectural techniques, procedures, and modifications to presentations, architectural design, and construction documents.


HDR's Senior Architectural Coordinator will regularly use of the following tools and technologies: AutoCAD; 3D modeling software such as 3D Max, Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Grasshopper; Virtual and augmented reality software such as Enscape, Unity 3D; Energy analysis with Sefaira, Honeybee, Ladybug, (with Python coding skills to supplement these tools), daylight analysis with DIVA, digital fabrication and Adobe Creative Suite software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Requirements: Master's Degree in Architecture or a related field and 6 months' experience in architecture (foreign equivalent accepted); or

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or a related field and 2 years' experience in architecture (foreign equivalent accepted).

Required experience may be professional, internship, or research experience in a university setting and must include experience in:

  • Architectural design;
  • Healthcare Facility design;
  • Drafting/Modeling with Revit, Autocad, and Rhino 3D;
  • Parametric Design with Grasshopper, Dynamo, and Python;
  • Virtual Reality with Unity 3D and Enscape;
  • Energy Analysis with Sefaira, Honeybee, Ladybug, DIVA, and THERM;
  • Cost analysis and estimation with RS Means; and
  • Digital fabrication, laser cutting software and machine handling, and 3D Printing software and extruders.
