GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.

The Division of Sleep Medicine Epidemiology and Cardiovascular Research in the Department of Medicine is seeking a level II Bioinformatician to work closely with an inter-disciplinary group of scientists and clinicians to play a leadership role in ongoing medical research projects focused on sleep and cardiovascular disorders, including data wrangling, computational programming and bioinformatics analysis to support several projects. Studies require integration and analyses of a wide variety of behavioral, physiological, biological, genomic, medical record and environmental data. The projects may require advanced knowledge of various statistical methods and machine learning algorithms. There are also opportunities to work with investigators across multiple sites to monitor and report on data and study goals. The Bioinformatician will work with other team members, including physicians, senior biostatisticians, epidemiologists, project coordinators and research assistants. The Bioinformatician may assist with manuscript preparation and provide training for junior analysts and trainees. The Bioinformatician may also assist with the adaptation and testing of code for processing and analysis of sleep-related data, such as actigraphy and EEG signals and may work with other Division faculty and staff to develop computer labs, workshops and written materials to assist the Division trainees in learning about clinical and epidemiological research.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
