As part of a diverse and hardworking team of experts you will directly support program execution for Process Engineering on all Blue Origin products. We are seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineering for the Machine Shop. You will work with innovative processes for various spaceflight systems. We are searching for a proactive, service-oriented individual with excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Translating engineering intent and drawings into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight by crafting manufacturing bill of materials and work instructions
  • Collaborating with the design team to positively impact designs for producibility, affordability, and automation initiatives; "Design for X" (DFX)
  • Identifying tools and equipment required for manufacturing flight hardware
  • Providing shipside/lineside support on the manufacturing floor
  • Non-conformance report (NCR) generation, management, & closure
  • Supporting introduction of new products by crafting manufacturing plan artifacts including build plans, duration estimates, index plans, and tool lists

Qualifications:

  • Shift days and times subject to change based on schedule and business needs.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.
  • +3 years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Hardware manufacturing experience with structures, fluid systems, mechanical systems, or avionics systems, including but not limited to: assembly, integration, instrumentation, cleaning, non-destructive testing, leak testing, machining, welding, surface coatings, harness/cable routings, or composite structures.
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment.
  • Closely manage quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.
  • Define and support repair and rework activities.
  • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.
  • Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process.
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience prioritizing hardware procurement and fabrication and communicating these priorities to the team.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc).
  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100.
  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Must be physically able to:

  • Support production floor activities.
  • Climb stairs and work in small areas.
  • Lift and carry 40 lbs.

Desired:

  • Proficiency with fabrication special processes (machining, grinding, forging, welding, casting, forming, rolling etc.)
  • Experience with hard and exotic metals
  • Proficient with applicable industry standards
  • Experience with CNC programming
  • Experience with aircraft, launch vehicle, spacecraft, or satellite development, production, or operations
  • Proficient in writing work instructions at a high pace.
  • Self-directed and able to balance several tasks at once
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E & Catia preferred

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.

Discretionary bonus: Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
