Position Title Assistant Teaching Professor of Music (Double Bass/Generalist)
About this Opportunity
The School of Music invites applications for a one-year, renewable non-tenure line position of Assistant Teaching Professor of Music (Generalist with Expertise in Double Bass) beginning August 2025.

Salary and benefit packages for this position are competitive, with salaries for this opportunity beginning at $50,000 annually.

Description
Teaching load to include:

  • Foundational levels of course work for the School of Music curricula, including MUHI 100, MUST 102, 111, 311.
  • Managing the recruitment and maintenance of the applied double bass studio, including instructing applied music lessons in double bass at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Maintaining a national profile in performance and professional service
  • Performing as a soloist and in faculty ensembles as needed
  • Assist with recruitment of double bassists to grow the studio size
  • Advancing students in academic matters
  • Assisting students in job and graduate school placement.


Our dynamic faculty function as collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and adaptive members of the College of Fine Arts community, both within and beyond the home unit, serving as quality teachers, productive in creative and/or scholarly work, engaged in public service activities, and contributing to the Ball State and Muncie communities and beyond. Additionally, lifelong learning at Ball State University extends educational engagement beyond the classroom and includes learning for professional development, personal enrichment, or other goals throughout one's lifetime. Faculty will be expected to participate in the department's, college's, and university's lifelong learning opportunities when available and may be assigned teaching responsibility in this area as part of their overall responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution by date of appointment and a documented history of professional activity in the area of assignment.
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
* At least four months of experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
* Professional connections within the orchestra discipline.
