Job Responsibilities:
Non-Paid Internship - Wisconsin Community Services Supportive Housing Sites (In Collaboration With Milwaukee County Housing Division)
  • Highland Commons - 6700 W Beloit Rd, West Allis
  • Farwell Studios - 1535 N Farwell Ave. Milwaukee
  • Empowerment Village Lincoln - 525 W Lincoln Ave. Milwaukee
  • Empowerment Village National - 1527 W National Ave. Milwaukee

Information on population of program participants

Residents have a history of mental illness and/or substance use and past history of homelessness.

Brief Description of programming

Our staff of Care Coordinators and Certified Peer Specialists provide onsite services at the above-listed supported housing buildings. These sites combine affordable housing with peer support services and care coordination services that help residents live independently in their own one bedroom or studio apartment. Support of program participants include but is not limited to:

  • Ongoing support and connection to community resources
  • Assistance with completion of recovery crisis plan
  • Completion of home wellness assessments/ Wellness checks
  • Daily recovery-oriented groups (mental health education, medication management, recovery planning, community involvement, harm reduction, socialization, group outings, resident meetings, etc.)
  • Individual check ins
Job Qualifications:

Characteristics desired in student intern

  • Interest in helping individuals work on recovery goals
  • Positive attitude and interpersonal skills
  • Dependable, flexible, and compassionate
  • Ability to display cultural awareness by responding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, religions, and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values a person's worth
  • Ability to provide trauma informed services and support

Training requirements

  • Training will consist of shadowing Care Coordination and Peer Specialist staff

Health requirements

  • Ability to get around buildings to perform wellness checks and accompany individuals in the community for scheduled outing
