Summary:

This position supports our Reese plant in Hershey, PA. This is a non-union plant with producing Reese's Peanut Butter Cups & Kit Kat.

Under limited supervision, provides leadership and direction for development of safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations and company policy. Develop and implement plant-wide safety policies and programs. Conduct safety assessments and provide safety guidance to BU Managers, supervisors and other functional teams. Develop and deliver safety training programs to all levels of management and employees plant-wide. Participate/provide leadership on multifunctional teams to provide safety support and guidance. Work with numerous internal customers. Interact with local, state/provincial, and federal level regulators.

Responsibilities:

Compliance:



  • Provide leadership for development and implementation of specific safety policies and programs. Maintain technical proficiency in key safety areas. Serve as plant resource for specific program areas. Develop and deliver safety training programs to all levels of management and employees. Provide technical guidance on specific safety issues to BU Managers, supervisors and other functional teams to ensure compliance.



Auditing:



  • Perform or coordinate department/plant-wide inspections of safety procedures, equipment and programs to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements and risk reduction management. Report on findings and work with plant management to develop action plans to address deficiencies. Support plant management and other safety staff to ensure action plans are implemented and necessary follow up occurs.



Incident Management:



  • Independently executes investigations and analyzes incidents to identify trends in people safety information. Initiates corrective and preventative action plans, and communicates findings as appropriate. Assists BU Managers and supervisors to determine resolution and implement corrective actions. Uses various computer support systems (ex. SAP EH&S, SharePoint) to document data.



Safety Management System & Continuous Improvement:



  • Assists with the development, implementation and monitoring of Safety Management System aspects and written program documentation. Conducts regular written program reviews and prepares updates. Performs regular internal audits and documents and reports findings and follows-up on non-conformances. Participate/lead verification and validation activities for Safety Management System aspects and safety regulatory compliance.



Project / Business Unit Support:



  • Drive continuous improvement through utilization of Safety program elements such as Take 5 For Safety, Safety Documentation Teams, Near Miss Program, Corrective Action initiatives, work orders, QDR, Pre-start up reviews for engineering projects, and other risk reduction programs. Leads Safety documentation Teams and prepares documents as necessary. Leads and/or participates on multifunctional improvement teams to provide safety guidance and safety problem solving. Interact with project managers to ensure safety issues are identified early in the project design and development process and are evaluated and addressed.



Training:



  • Create and implement training programs and informational materials as required to convey safety policies and procedures for new hire orientation, on-going regulatory requirements and specialized training.



Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:




  • Detailed working knowledge of federal, state and local occupational safety industry regulations and guidelines (OSHA, EPA, L&I, other)
  • Strong document management skills and attention to details
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving/trouble shooting skills
  • Strong auditing / assessment skills
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence all levels of employees
  • Proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Power Point, SAP EH&S and SAP PM
  • Must have the ability to plan, prioritize, and complete multiple priorities.
  • Ability to self-lead work tasks to completion.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment but also have the ability to work independently.
  • Must have strong employee training development and presentation skills.
  • Flexibility is key in this role as priorities change quickly. Must be able to move between tasks and projects on short notice and quickly change priorities based on customer and department needs, while meeting project deadlines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to climb ladders to work platforms, climb stairs to other work areas. Lifting of moderately heavy items such as test equipment or materials.



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:




  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational/Industrial safety, Safety Engineering, Human Factors or other EHS related field preferred. Equivalent related work experience will be considered
  • Preference for 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment related to EHS program management.


  • Preference for food, food-related or consumer package goods experience.
  • Experience in Safety Management System (VPP, OHSAS 18001, ANSI Z10) is a plus
