Organizational Unit Overview
The East Carolina University Alumni Association ( ECUAA) is the constituency of former students whose continuing interest and support have helped ECU become known as one of the finest comprehensive universities in the South. The ECUAA was created to develop a spirit of cooperation and loyalty among alumni and to promote the general welfare of the institution. The scope of the association, which was organized by the classes of 1911 and 1912 in June 1912, has grown tremendously as the alumni population has multiplied with a growing ECU. Today, the ECUAA is part of the greater University Advancement team and supports more than 195,000 alumni worldwide. The Division of University Advancement, under oversight by the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement, is the friend-raising and fund-raising arm of the general academic areas of the university; therefore, all its activities are designated to support, financial or otherwise, for East Carolina University. The units and subunits with the division work together to identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni and friends of the university to gain financial support from the private sector for the purpose of enhancing the long- and short-range growth and welfare of the university. University Advancement is comprised of the East Carolina University Alumni Association, the ECU Foundation, and the ECU Health Foundation.
