RK&K is seeking a Wetland Scientist to join our Natural Resources Team in Raleigh who will take on the role of a lead wetland field scientist. As an RK&K environmental scientist you will also be actively involved in a diversity of projects including: wetland delineations, stream delineations, wetland/stream functional assessments, protected species surveys (including plants, mussels, and fish), water quality permitting, habitat assessments, and other natural resource projects.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Lead wetland and stream delineations, protected species surveys and habitat assessment, and other natural resource inventories using GPS data collection platforms (ESRI Field Maps).
  • Prepare documents and natural resource reports
  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Collaborate with other environmental professionals
  • Conduct in-water aquatic surveys involving wetsuit, waders, water safety gear, etc.


Required Skills and Experience

Candidates will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and must be:



  • 5 years relevant experience in Wetland Science and/or Forestry, and GIS
  • Team-oriented
  • Adept at juggling multiple tasks
  • Excellent at written and verbal communication
  • Motivated to find creative solutions to environmental problems
  • Excited to work outdoors, including in-water, in all seasonal environments
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or equivalent
  • Undergraduate curriculum that emphasized natural resources disciplines
  • NC SWITC, NCWAM, NCSAM Certified
  • Plant identification, wetland delineation training
  • GIS Experience


Preferred Skills and Experience



  • Master's Degree
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification
  • Experience in North Carolina
  • Delineation experience in Mountain, Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions
  • ecological monitoring, construction monitoring
  • CADD experience
  • Experience with aquatic surveys
  • CPR/First Aid training
  • UAS Part 107
