Purpose

Provide system-level administration and support for workstation fleet, networking and security for the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the system-level administration for department workstation fleet in a primarily Windows environment using industry standard tools.

  • Maintainimaging tools, department print server, patch management,software deployment and licensing management.Administer additional endpoint and management platforms as needed.

  • Assist with department IT security posture, policies, reporting and procedures to follow campus requirements and industry best practices.

  • Windows Server configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting and support for physical/virtual servers.

  • Assist with the administration of the Mechanical Engineering network in coordination with campus-level network support team, services, and compliance.

  • Provide advanced-level end user support as needed.

  • Document processes, topologies, and system configurations. Maintain and update accurate information across several systems including inventory records, knowledge base, and ticketing system.

Required Qualifications
  • Three years of professional, business/enterprise fleet management experience of Windows OS in a centrally managed environment including using common tools such as SCCM/MECM, Intune, Active Directory, and Group Policy. Experience administering servers (virtual and physical), OS/software deployments, patching, and maintaining inventory.

  • Experience with commonly used concepts, practices, procedures, and tools used in supporting and maintaining macOS.

  • Process-oriented with excellent documentation skills. Create and/or maintain technical and operational documentation.

  • Core understanding of information security best practices and networking fundamentals.

  • Excellent communication and customer service with the ability to work with minimal supervision with accuracy and attention to detail with sound decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • More than 3 years of experience

  • Relevant certifications and professional development education.

  • Jamf experience.

  • Understanding of fundamentals of PowerShell and Bash scripting.

  • Linux system management experience.

  • Tier 2 and 3 desktop support experience.

  • Work experience in higher education information technology.

  • Experience with support tools and applications commonly used at UT Austin.

  • Experience managing computer lab environment.

  • Experience with specific tools including AppLocker, Code42, ServiceNow, OneDrive/SharePoint/Office 365, Box, VBox/VMware Fusion,/Parallels.

Salary Range

$73,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Work Shift
  • Standard work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

  • Periodic work outside normal business hours, include evenings and weekends may be required on a periodic basis.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) (on-campus and remote work).
