ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Will be the SME for developing the latest generation of high-speed embedded communication networks
- Conduct network architecture and design trade studies, assess performance, and lead design reviews
- Develop an in-space network architecture that routes critical data within, between, and through a satellite constellation
- Lead the development of end-to-end network requirements, perform network performance modeling and simulation, define interfaces at the network edges, advise network equipment design requirements, leverage COTS designs for custom space-worthy applications, and perform validation testing
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team in architecting, designing, integrating, and testing of a variety of in-space network equipment
- Serve as the technical focus of all aspects of the network to the system architecture tea
- Supports interfacing disciplines such as software, firmware, mechanical, RF, hardware, integration & test, and project management
QUALIFICATIONS Education/Certification: B.S. degree or higher in an applicable field (electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, etc.) Years of Experience:
- 10+ years validated ability in design, development, test, and operation of networking hardware
- 7+ years of experience architecting and implementing networking or data routing capabilities for custom applications such as embedded systems, aircraft, automotive, spacecraft, or other related sectors
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Required:
- Experience with commercial networking equipment and standards, proficiency in system-level network engineering, and ability to plan and lead project resources while infusing and facilitating creativity and innovation
- Strong data network design experience, in depth understanding of network protocol theory, implementation and operation
- Experience with router and switch equipment architecture, operation and configuration
- Experience with Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)
- Experience with Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Ethernet and other transport interfaces
- Experience with Quality of Service (QoS)
- Experience with dynamic routing protocols (RIPv2, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, static, PBR)
- Experience with Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF)
- Strong background with commercial OSI Layer 1, 2 and 3 switching and routing hardware and software
- Proven communication/interpersonal skills, self-motivated, and ability to be a strong team player
- Experience across the engineering life cycle, including defining architecture, performing engineering design trades, establishing requirements, performing bench-top testing, and fielding
Desired:
- Familiarity with applying information assurance and cyber security requirements to the architecture and requirements
- Experience with network simulation software (e.g., OPNET), network testing hardware (e.g., traffic generators/analyzers), and real-time operating systems
- Strong understanding of time synchronization protocols and creating robust safety-critical networks
- Experience crafting requirements for engineering teams working on avionics or board-level designs
- Experience with hardware integration, test and debug tools (logic analyzers, scopes, emulators) and board bring-up/verification in an electronic lab environment
