About the Department
The Department offers the following degrees: B.S. in Mathematics, M.S. in Mathematics with no concentration or concentrations in Bioinformatics, Discrete Mathematics, Scientific Computing, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics, M.S. in Applied Statistics with with no concentration or concentrations in Biostatistics and Statistics & Allied Fields, and Ph.D. in Mathematics and Statistics with concentrations in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, and Machine Learning and Data Science. Faculty members in the department have established nationally and internationally recognized research programs in both mathematics and statistics, including applied statistics, biostatistics, data science, dynamical systems, complex networks, machine learning, inverse problems, mathematical biology, optimization, computational mathematics, systems biology, modeling neural, cardiovascular, and multi-organ systems, physical and biomedical image analysis. Additionally, the department collaborates with other departments at GSU in epidemiology, pathogen genetics, immunology, inflammation, and translational biomedical sciences. Position Description
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia State University invites applications to fill two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the areas of combinatorial and stochastic optimization with applications in machine learning and/or mathematical and statistical foundations of data sciences with a start date of August 2025. Candidates in all related areas of mathematics and statistics are encouraged to apply.
Required Experience
Required Education
Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related field at the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Strong preference to work in a cross-disciplinary, collaborative environment;

Experience in supervising undergraduate and graduate students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to teach core undergraduate and graduate mathematics and/or statistics courses;

Dedication to excellence in research and teaching in the areas of combinatorial and stochastic optimization with applications in machine learning and/or mathematical and statistical foundations of data sciences.
