MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

For West Virginia Labs:

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.

2. West Virginia Point of Care Technician (PoC) License within 90 days of hire, as applicable per physical work location assignment.

For Ohio and Maryland Labs:

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Phlebotomy Certification (CPT).

EXPERIENCE:

1. Six (6) months of Phlebotomy, Lab Assistant or Cytopreparatory experience.

1. Prepare specimens in order to perform basic diagnostic procedures designed to contribute to accurate reproducible patient results.

2. Operate laboratory equipment/instrumentation for basic testing and specimen processing consistent with standard operating procedures.

3. Prepare reagents and solutions required to complete specimen processing and testing according to the standard operating procedures.

4. Perform quality control procedures under direct supervision to ascertain the reliability of reagents and laboratory equipment/instrumentation.

5. Perform routine maintenance and quality control of laboratory equipment/instrumentation.

6. Report test results with limited errors and in a timely manner.

7. Utilize time, materials, and resources in an economical manner, prioritizing laboratory requests and workload to provide for optimal patient care and efficiency.

8. Complete assigned workload within established turnaround times by adjusting organization of work according to test ordering status.

9. Communicate any unusual supply usage or critical supply levels to the Supervisor/Manager.

10. Communicate any unusual medical/technical problems or unusual patient results.

11. Perform clerical duties as needed to support laboratory operations.

1. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Able to use computer keyboard, monitor, mouse and calculator.

2. Able to use computer software (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).

3. Abel to use Fax machines, printers and other office equipment.

Additional Job Description:

The successful applicant will be primarily working in a laboratory setting under the direct supervision of the Cytotechnologist Supervisor to accession and prepare bodily fluids for microscopic examination by a Cytotechnologist and/or Pathologist. They will be required to centrifuge and aliquot Cytological samples for cell block preparation, prepare and stain pap smears, handle bodily fluids and operate routine Cytology instrumentation, and work in coordination with other laboratory technicians. In addition, the technician will also participate in clerical functions including filing and organizing slides, paperwork, and answering the phone to assist with daily operations in the cytology department. A preferred knowledge in biology, anatomy, and/or cytology with a general understanding of laboratory technique is preferred. The laboratory technician must be computer literate and have a general knowledge of medical terminology.
