ABOUT THE JOB (JOB BRIEF)

The Corporate Responsibility & Community Relations Sr. Associate (Referred to as CRO below) is responsible for establishing and executing KeyBank's community engagement strategy and upholding the bank's local reputation in the community with a primary focus on maintaining Community Reinvestment Act Regulatory ratings and compliance. The position establishes, participates, and maintains relationships with community-based, charitable, and non-profit organizations. The CRO is a member of the market leadership team and advises senior management of emerging CRA issues to ensure objectives are maintained and issues are mitigated.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Identify (or build) local community engagement plans with local market leadership aligned with Corporate Responsibility (CR) strategy including CRA and Community Benefits Plan (CBP) goals to:
  • Identify critical community needs to inform CRA and CBP strategies as well as identify community concerns and mitigate reputational risk;
  • Develop community development partnerships to drive CRA eligible mortgage, small business, community development loan and investment and financial education programs;
  • Identify and engage significant Community Centers of Influence (COIs) and thought leaders within market;
  • Serve as KeyBank's principle liaison and act as an external facing advocate for KeyBank's brand in market(s);
  • Attend role related community events; serve as community relationship manager/connector;
  • Participate in local market initiatives (specific to each individual market).
  • Support CRA performance monitoring with mortgage, small business, branch distribution and commercial business lines to:
  • Encourage market leadership understanding of CRA performance;
  • Collaborate with local business line leadership to develop and implement action steps to improve CRA and CBP performance;
  • Provide input on branch actions with the goal of ensuring strong branch distribution in LMI and diverse communities through participation in the Community Investment Committee (CIC) and market planning initiatives;
  • Lead local partnership to drive CRA eligible community development services and volunteer hours.
  • Maintain working relationship with KeyBank CRA Data Analytics, Sustainability/ Community Engagement, and ESG teams to:
  • Ensure overall community development activity meets CRA guidelines and effectively addresses needs of LMI borrowers and geographies;
  • Align CRO work to those efforts that drive the most impact and align with CRA (and applicable current CBP) goals;
  • Keep abreast of emerging CRA issues and regulatory perspectives.
  • Support Sustainability/ESG initiatives.
  • Maintain working relationship with KeyBank Foundation (KBF) to ensure overall philanthropic investment activity meets the KBF strategy and market priorities (or applicable current CBP) objectives to:
  • Align philanthropic investments to those efforts that optimize community impact and support CRA goals.
  • Maintain working relationship with KeyBank line of business (LOB) leadership and partner teams to:
  • Help inform market priorities and practices relating to investments, loans, and products;
  • Effectively develop and track actionable plans to address any significant market performance or reputational weaknesses identified;
  • Advocate for products and services that serve the LMI community.
  • Maintain working relationship with Marketing and Communications to support promotion of CR efforts in local communities both internally and externally.
  • Work with LOB partners to identify opportunities that may result in increased business referrals to:
  • Support business line revenue goals, market plan objectives (or applicable current CBP) goals;
  • Seek opportunities to educate, and refer appropriately, community thought leaders about KeyBank, its products, services, and activities that benefit the community and the Bank;
  • Participate in evaluating branch strategy for branch optimization; under the leadership of CR Data Analytics team advocate and provide expert guidance for CRA knowledge in spaces where learning can be institutionalized (including Keys2Learn, HR, market leadership, other).

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Participate in local market initiatives (customized individual market needs/priorities)
  • Coordinate special projects related to community development/corporate responsibility initiatives
  • Support market or national employee resource groups; DEI Initiatives
  • Support Market Sponsorships related to community development
  • Serve as point person for KeyBank in community (ex participation on community panel discussions)
  • Connect Key employees for placement on external boards and/or volunteer opportunities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma (GED)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience within a banking, financial services, or community development role
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills including written and verbal.
  • Must be able to prepare documents and compose business letters, and policies and procedures.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
  • Must be well-organized, accurate and attentive to detail

PREFERRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and building partnerships within underrepresented communities, for profit organizations and nonprofit organizations
  • Ability to give constructive feedback and maintain accountability while sustaining the self-confidence and self-esteem of others.
  • Exercise sound judgment, accurately identify and proactively resolve potential problems. Demonstrate ability to pivot to unexpected community needs/occurrences

Key has implemented a role-based Mobile by Design approach to our employee workspaces, dedicating space to those whose roles require specific workspaces, while providing flexible options for roles which are less dependent on assigned workspaces and can be performed effectively in a mobile environment. As a result, this role may be mobile or home based, which means you may work either at a home office or in a Key facility to perform your job duties. If located near a KeyBank location, the position in the future may work partially from a Key facility. If not located near a Key facility, team will consider remote workers.
