he Union Labor Life Insurance Company is actively recruiting an Assistant Vice President, Actuarial for our Silver Spring, MD office. Reporting to the Corporate Chief Actuary, this position will oversee, direct, and provide functional expertise for actuarial modernization to include LDTI implementation, optimization of actuarial-related data feeds among company systems; and actuarial software upgrades. Longer term the incumbent will direct or perform at least one of the following functions or roles: group life and disability pricing; Appointed Actuary; direct marketing life and A&H pricing; financial reporting; capital management; or asset adequacy testing. Manages assigned staff. Milliman Integrate experience preferred. VBA, SQL, and/or Python coding experience highly, preferred.

Job Duties/Responsibilities are as follows:




  • Direct final LDTI testing and implementation from an actuarial perspective. The Company is a private filer so initial LDTI reporting begins in January 2026 for full years 2024 and 2025 and quarterly thereafter. The Company's LDTI work is in progress.


  • Direct the documentation of current processes among internal administrative systems and external vendor data and re-engineer the same with the goal of increasing process efficiency and strengthening financial controls.


  • Track and assess emerging technology in cooperation with finance and IT partners and make recommendations for implementation and upgrades from an actuarial perspective.


  • Plan, coordinate and implement the development and maintenance of product dashboards with product actuaries and other company partners.


  • Plan, coordinate and implement optimization procedures for utilizing Milliman Integrate in all actuarial processes.


  • Collaborate with stakeholders to produce impactful short and longer-term technology decisions with an emphasis on continuous process improvement.


  • Establish and maintain ongoing communication with staff regarding performance expectations, organization and department goals and career objectives. Provides training resources, mentoring, and employee development plans and prepares and communicates performance appraisals as appropriate or required. Documents and communicates disciplinary actions as necessary.


  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.



Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a BS/BA degree with a Master's degree an added plus. Our ideal candidate will have completed the SOA's requirements for Associateship or Fellowship and be a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Our ideal candidate will have ten or more years' actuarial experience including direct actuarial modernization work experience. Must be able to demonstrate executive level experience in at least one of the following areas or roles: group life and disability pricing; Appointed Actuary; direct marketing life and A&H pricing; financial reporting; capital management; or asset adequacy testing.
