Overview

Department 375 is seeking highly motivated candidates to support design and development of VIRGINIA Class and next generation submarines. D375 is responsible for fluid systems including hydraulic, auxiliary, habitability and life support, HVAC, seawater and compressed gas systems. These systems are essential to the ability to sustain life underwater, submarine operation, and accomplishment of the ship's mission. Fluid system engineers are responsible for the design and development of all aspects of these systems from concept development to ship delivery. In addition to the design and development of fluid systems, engineers in D375 are exposed to various aspects of submarine design, construction, and operation which provides opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer. This may include rotation experiences to directly support planning and/or construction engineering to assist with downstream design incorporation.

Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for development and execution of projects supporting current and future VIRGINIA Class design efforts, design changes, and system improvement tasking. This position requires continued progression of technical and project management skills.

Technical Responsibilities: Development of initial system/component requirements and specifications; performing calculations (e. g. pressure drop, flow analyses, heat loads, stress analysis); developing and improving fluid system designs; developing/reviewing system diagrams and drawings; material and equipment selections; resolving emergent design and construction issues; managing system interfaces; developing system operating instructions for ship's crew, test forms and maintenance procedures.

Project Management: Development of budgets and schedules to complete the required technical work in support of achieving program milestones; requirement and interface management with other disciplines, effective written and verbal communication to internal and external customers (e.g. other EB departments, NAVSEA, Ship's Force, private contractors and other shipyards as required).

Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Please ask for more details on how it applies to this opening during discussions with the department.
