RK&K is hiring a Construction Manager for our DC/Maryland/Virginia region which will be based out of our Fairfax office. In this role, you will managing complex rail/highway/bridge construction projects and help grow and manage our area construction inspection teams. Essential Function
- Manage, build and develop area construction inspection teams
- Manage assigned elements of projects as an owner's representative to ensure contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects
- Serve as a communication liaison between field staff, contractor, design team and citizens
- Determine inspection staffing needs, provide staff supervision and management, research and interpret contract requirements providing technical guidance to staff and ensure quality of work product
- Update and track financial information including cost projections for projects
- Participate in Preconstruction Services (scoping, utility conflicts, constructability & Bidability)
- Lead, mentor, and manage the day-to-day operations of field staff
- Manage the Project Close-out process, including as-builts, final quantities and final acceptance
- Focus attention on the success of key project elements: Safety & Environmental, Quality, Schedule and Cost
- Interact and build relationship with client
Required Skills and Experience
- B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or related field
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in civil infrastructure construction
- Ability to evaluate bids, provide feedback and assist the Owner in procuring a general contractor
- Federal, state, local or municipal DOT experience
- Construction management experience in the following; rail, roadway, utilities, and structures
- Ability to read & interpret plans & specifications
- Understanding of contractor means & methods and materials
- Understanding of QA/QC development and execution process
- Understanding RFI and Submittal Processes as well as experience running project meetings and developing meeting minutes
- Familiarity with interpreting contract specifications, standards, etc.
- Ability to lift 40lbs and maneuver in constricted construction zones
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding with MS Office 365 suite
- Ability to pass a driving record background check
- Ability to pass Criminal History Background Check (CHBC)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and understanding of project controls (CPM scheduling, cost estimating, claim analysis)
- Rail experience with CSX, Amtrak, VRE, and/or other Class 1 railroad organizations
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in VA or ability to attain reciprocity within 6 months
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or ability to attain credential within 6 months
