Job Description

Augsburg is accepting applications for Admissions Counselor, Senior Admissions Counselor, and Assistant Director positions within our Undergraduate Admissions team. The Hiring Team will review candidates' applications and place qualified candidates into the appropriate position title based on their experience and qualifications.

Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) at Augsburg University

The Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) division includes four uniquely equipped teams: Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, SEM Operations, and Financial Aid.

Vision: The SEM division's vision is to be a belonging organization that builds deeper relationships, changes systems, and dismantles the tenets of white supremacy and oppression in higher education enrollment management.

Mission: Our SEM mission is to meet every student where they are with authentic presence, outreach, and engagement. Our nationally recognized Augsburg Applies to You platform supports this mission through direct admissions, success coaching, and fostering academic belonging for students prior to matriculation. We exist to deliver enrollment results, innovation, service, and the essential infrastructure to attract, meet the needs of, and enroll future graduates. We are a key partner in driving sustainable enrollment growth at Augsburg towards the goal of becoming a medium-sized university with 5,000 Auggies by 2030.

Summary of Position

The Admissions Counselor, Senior Admissions Counselor, and Assistant Director of Admissions enthusiastically conduct personalized student engagement for all stages of the enrollment decision making journey. They are responsible for developing deeper student coaching relationships informed and measured by data analytics and results. They will manage a recruitment territory with a focus on cultivating meaningful interactions, engage with an assigned community or program partnership, and support an area of strategic priority. This position primarily works with incoming first-year student populations and will occasionally support transfer student recruitment and events.

Primary Responsibilities

Direct Student Engagement

  • Embrace and maintain knowledge of the University messaging and positioning; people, programs, outcomes, policies, procedures, to authentically articulate the Augsburg student experience.
  • Conduct recruitment, yield, and anti-melt activities throughout the entire enrollment cycle.
    • Conduct student interviews and presentations (on and off campus).
    • Visit high schools, organizations, and colleges to present and advise students.
    • Conduct routine cultivation outreach and response (phone, text, social media, email).
    • Conduct virtual recruitment activities i.e. online events, chat, social media, video.
  • Evaluate admission applications.
  • Help plan, organize, and execute engaging on-campus (and off-campus) recruiting events.
  • Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) databases to manage communications/follow up and your capacity accountability.
  • Build relationships with school counselors and other community partners to support students in their college search and application process.

Administrative Tasks

  • Develop and manage a recruitment territory of inquiries and admitted students for each cycle.
  • Analyze recruitment data and use information to determine travel and communication plans.
  • Responsibility for an assigned area of strategic priority or initiative utilizing the objective and key results framework (OKR).

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve on cross functional teams that impact the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Successfully complete Augsburg Diversity Certificate program, and Edify DEIB Posture statement.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and trainings and stay informed of institutional changes that would impact the students' experience.
  • Share trends on what you are hearing from students with the wider team.
  • Provide input on recruitment strategies. i.e. the Augsburg Applies 2U/Power of US initiatives.
  • Complete routine reports related to recruitment, projections, travel, and special programs.
  • Work with the rest of the admissions staff to develop the quarterly/annual recruitment plans.
  • Serve as a student success coaching role for prospective students as part of Augsburg Applies to You program.
  • Extend your prospective student coaching role into working with a limited group of enrolled students to strengthen your recruitment impact related to firsthand knowledge of actual student experiences.
  • Other duties and projects as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
  • Typical work environment is an office. Sedentary work for long periods of time.
  • Travel to events, which includes talking and presenting.
  • Regular computer and phone use.
  • Travel that includes flying and driving capability.
  • Emotional intelligence may be needed in order to effectively relate to and work with students and or families from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and occasional strong emotional reactions.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for empowering others to succeed.
  • Evidence of the ability to work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral/public presentation and written communication skills.
  • Technology experience with Microsoft Suite (i.e. Word and/or Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Admissions experience as a professional staff member, student employee, or internship.
  • Ability to speak bilingually: Spanish, Somali, Arabic, or Hmong.
  • Effective time management and the ability to work independently.
  • Team player, effective at collaboration.
  • Proven ability to achieve goals, influence others, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to think strategically, creatively and innovatively on how to recruit and connect with prospective students now and in future admissions cycles.
  • Command of University messaging and positioning; people, programs, outcomes, policies, procedures, to authentically articulate the Augsburg student experience.
