Assistant/Assoc Prof Theatre

The Department of Theatre at Northwestern University is searching for a tenure-eligible faculty member, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, in Theatre for Young Audiences and Creative Drama. We welcome applicants with expertise in areas that include, but are not limited to, the following: Directing for Young Audiences, Creative Drama/Process Drama, Storytelling, Theatre for the Very Young, Devising with and for Young People, Youth Theatre, Sensory Theatre, Drama Pedagogy, Immersive Theatre, Digital Storytelling, Culturally Responsive Teaching, Teaching Artistry, Children with Special Needs, Accessibility and Inclusion, Puppetry, Playwriting for Young Audiences, Arts Advocacy, Research, Curriculum Development, Educational Outreach related to Productions, etc.

Our intention is to recruit individuals with a track record of excellence in professional practice, pedagogy, and scholarship to move the field forward. Our department has experience in multiple approaches, providing a strong infrastructure to support collaborations across disciplines.

Preferred Start Date: September 1, 2025

Qualifications:
1.PhD or MFA in Theatre or related field
2.Experience teaching at the university level
3.Substantive experience in the professional field of Drama and Theatre for Children and Youth
4.Experience working with diverse communities of students and/or scholars
5.Affiliation with Professional Networking Organizations (e.g. AATE, TYA/USA, ASSITEJ, ATHE, ASTR, etc.)
6.Demonstrated potential to achieve tenure through teaching, service, and scholarship/creative activity

Duties:
*Teach 4 classes annually within the TYA program
*Collaborate with other disciplines within Theater, especially the Imagine U producing wing of the Wirtz Center
*Collaborate with teachers in the Evanston/Skokie District 65 Drama program
*Serve as head of the TYA Module, mentoring students with an interest in the field
*Curriculum and special event development
*Full participation in the life of the department

Salary: This is an Assistant or Associate rank search. The expected base pay based on rank is as follows:
Assistant Professor 95-115K
Associate Professor 115K - 135K.
This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation.

The School: At Northwestern's School of Communication, we engage in serious play - in our collaborations, our research and our deep scholarship that creates real impact in the real world.
