HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist I to assist in the conduct and analysis of academic research projects. This is the first level in a series of five.

This position will be in support of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The epidemiologist in this position will primarily work on studies of the Environmental Determinants of Cancer among members of the US Military. These studies involve the assessment of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and other exposures from pre-diagnostic serum samples. The serum biomarkers will be analyzed in conjunction with measures of genomic, proteomic and possibly metabolomic profiles to assess susceptibility and risk of development of various cancers.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

This position offers ad hoc telework at the discretion of the supervisor. Otherwise it will be onsite at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD.


Responsibilities

  • Provides epidemiologic support for the study including analyses for cohort, case control, and cross-sectional studies.
  • Assists in the development of periodic reports, internal guidelines, protocols, presentations and manuscripts.
  • Assists with study design and data acquisition.
  • Maintains various databases and uses basic analytical software such as SAS and STATA to complete initial data analysis in collaboration with other team members.
  • Conducts literature reviews and searches.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Epidemiology required.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with environmental epidemiology issues, epidemiological research design, methodology, and IRB protocol development
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, End Note and Excel.
  • Experience with statistical programs such as SAS, STATA and R required.
  • Excellent organization skills, analytical abilities, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in academic research including publications and/or presentations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 public trust.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinical setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $64,200-$85,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
