We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our team of purification scientists working with and supporting GSK discovery chemistry at our Upper Providence R&D site.

The UP purification group is a multidisciplinary team that works with project teams to progress the discovery and development of small molecules from hit identification through early development (non-GxP). This position will help to enable the effective partnership of chemistry teams from Medicinal and Development Chemistry with Analytical Chemistry.

The successful applicant will join the Analytical Chemistry team, managing their own group and developing critical analytical and preparative LC, LC/MS and SFC methods for the chiral and achiral evaluation and purification of a variety of novel chemical entities across a range of operational scales from milligrams to hundreds of grams. This is an opportunity to apply your personal expertise in essential enabling technologies to advance efforts from initial drug design right through the API development process. Alongside this you will troubleshoot and provide first-line repairs to sophisticated analytical equipment and devise and oversee research projects to enhance our capabilities.

The position requires an individual with strong analytical, technical, reporting and personal skills, experience of team or matrix management and a commitment to further personal development in both technical and leadership areas.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Chromatographic method development and purification of novel chemical entities.
  • Management and development of the purification team.
  • Investigation and implementation of novel technologies and improvements to methodologies to enhance capabilities.
  • Engage in collaborative science efforts with affiliated team at the UP and Stevenage R&D hubs.
  • Collaborate with key vendors to drive technology/capability strategy.
Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BSc in Chemistry with significant industrial experience and training, or MSc/PhD with demonstrable and practical industrial experience in a professional setting.
  • Experience of contemporary analytical and purification chromatography platforms.
  • Experience in the field of achiral and chiral separations using contemporary chromatographic methodologies.
  • Experience with oligonucleotide/PROTAC/molecular glue/ADC analytical and purification challenges.
  • Have leadership capabilities

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Self-motivated with good organisational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment to solve problems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Background in associated analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry.
  • Experience of developing and implementing novel technologies.
  • Ability to perform both individually and as part of a team.
