Director of Student Transitions and Family Programs

The Director, Student Transitions and Family Programs position reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. This new position will lead institutional efforts related to the development of skill-building opportunities for students through signature events as they transition to and through Curry College, and personalized support to build competence and confidence in navigating and utilizing the resources available at the college. This is an important role that requires excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to manage successful relationships that result in increased student success and family affinity for the student experience.

The Director of STFP will play a key role in the successful execution of the First Year Experience initiative which is one of the five key initiatives of the College's new Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions:

1. New Student Orientation & Transitions:
  • Chair the Orientation Committee for the College and ensure broad representation from across campus in order to create and deliver a relevant, student-focused transition program for new students prior to their arrival and throughout their first year at Curry;
  • This position will work closely with colleagues from Student Engagement and Academic Affairs to build an orientation program that meets the needs of the student, families, the institution and impacts the First Year Experience and overall retention of students;
  • Assist in designing and coordinating orientation programs, including new student orientation, transfer student orientation, and family orientation;
  • Work with key offices and departments across campus to prepare students for other key transition periods during their time at Curry (Career and Experiential Learning, Alumni Office, Commuter Student Services, etc);
  • In partnership with Student Engagement, recruit, train and co-supervise orientation student staff, creating a supportive and educational environment for all member of the Curry community.

2. Family Engagement:
  • Communicate as necessary with colleagues across the campus, students and their family members;
  • Work with key offices across campus to ensure frequent, thorough and easily accessible communication is available for families of students;
  • This position must become a trusted resource for parents and families;
  • Assist in the management of the CampusESP platform to communicate and engage with families on a regular basis and create resources to support them;
  • Serve as liaison and point of contact for families during key times of the academic year, emergencies and/or crises;
  • Work closely with Institutional Advancement to coordinate efforts related to family engagement.

3. General Functions:
  • Foster collaboration between departments to create signature programs such as Undergraduate New Student Orientation, Family Summer Sendoffs, Family Weekend, and other programs at key transitional points of the Curry student experience for students and families;
  • Maintain and update files and records as appropriate;
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Some nights and weekends are required.

Additional Functions:
  • Collaborates frequently with campus partners including but not limited to: Athletics, Residence Life, Advising and Academic Success, Buildings and Grounds, Public Safety, Conference and Event Services staff, the Student Center staff;
  • Serve on institutional committees as needed or as appropriate;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field required;
  • 7 - 9 years of experience in student affairs, orientation, family programming or related areas;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with student information systems;
  • Knowledge of Banner Operational System;
  • Knowledge of Modern Campus Involve and CampusESP.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, management, and platform skills;
  • An ability to oversee a wide variety of activities; attention to detail and ability to work independently;
  • Solid experience in program development, implementation, and assessment;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong professional and ethical standards on which to serve as a role model to a diverse student constituency;
  • Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast-paced environment, including working nights and weekends as necessary.

Salary Range:

$75,000-$80,000 annually
